Weighing just over 1.5 ounces and measuring only 3.2 inches long, the pocket-size Lumintop Copper Tool runs on a single AAA battery. Made from copper, it features diamond-patterned knurling for added grip, and it offers three separate brightness modes for different scenarios—low mode provides up to 5 lumens, while high mode offers up to 110 lumens depending on the LED Read More
I've just done the same thing, bought two Brass one and a Copper one over the last couple days with the intention of LEGO'ing the parts across two of them...
Gonna keep a Brass one as-is by my nightstand but I wanted the flat tail cap on my Copper one for my photography/travel bag... Probably gifting away the other Brass one with the Cooper's rubber tail cap.
Any idea if they start to blend together more, color-wise, after they gain some patina? Or is the Copper tail always gonna be a much warmer shade?
You may be able to order them from http://countycomm.com/. I believe they have a $150 minimum for international orders though and not sure what the shipping costs would be.
Actually, the $150 is pretty easy to hit. I have spent way too much money there recently.
What I meant is, if I buy this light I'll have the exact same flashlights you have since I already own the black aluminum, the Ti and the MD brass, all with nichia except the aluminum since that was my first and I don't like the cree. I really love the form factor of these little guys, they are so portable.
Mario.PaulOops my bad, haha.
Nice setup man, great job :-)
Yes,it's the same light it only uses a different material. It has the same kind of tail switch as the aluminium one.
I believe there is no Nichia version of the aluminium Lumintop Tool as far as I know, but since it was my first one I also didn't look for it, so the Cree it was.
yup, both banggood and gearbest have faster shipping than massdrop, and totally free.... I think I will only buy massdrop made flashlight on massdrop, and buy all others at other website.
RebuswindThere are still great deals on here. Just not all of them.
If you don't do your homework, or are prone to impulse buys you won't get the best deals. That is pretty much the same with anything though. Either be an informed consumer, or another rube. It's up to the individual to decide which.
I do a lot of "inspecting" little crevasses inside an otherwise well-lit room (The room doesn't illuminate the cracks, but it does mean a flashlight light has to compete more), I can use M mode on my Nichia Brass (18 lumens, three clicks on that model) but usually I can get by with L (about 3-4 lumens?) so I can have extended battery life.
L-M-H works well for me, but for an average user's EDC I think the M could be all they need most of the time. While the Lumintop brightness for L is brighter and IMO more useful than many competitors, and L-M-H seems perfectly tailored for my work, I think this copper M-L-H could be preferential to most suburban/urban people.
I'm tempted to get a copper one of these (or a worm). While my brass will age gracefully and I already have a few other brass collectibles, I'm enamoured with the idea of the darker copper, and how copper patina is almost reddish-black with the possibility of some green. Does the rubber-covered tail-clicky allow for tail-standing?
EvshrugI'll agree with you about the different modes and the usefulness of it. Although it's a great urban edc setup, I do miss a firefly mode. In total darkness even the low mode can cause some problems when adjusting your night vision. I will rather skip trough the low mode when I need a higher output. It's always a matter of personal preference.
Those kind of small lights are great for indoor inspection work, I'll take your word for it.
Although I really like my copper version, it's not capable to tailstand at a flat surface, as you can see in the picture I took for you. If you wamt the tailstanding capabilities you can go for the brass or Ti version and otherwise there are plenty of other great light's out there, like the Maratec TPF with a 90% angle, also available in different nice materials only no Nichia version as I know of.
cope3amI was actually a bit tempted by the titanium version. Unlike the copper or aluminum models it has a flat tail so you can stand it up like a lamp. The copper accent ring looks nice too. Unfortunately it is $70 and doesn't offer any additional function over the Maratac steel AAA flashlight that is currently my daily carry. The steel Maratac doesn't show up scratches and is light enough that a titanium build wouldn't make a noticeable difference as the battery is like 70% of the weight of the light.
This time Massdrop didn't attache the invoice outside of the box like they do normally. Now I have to pay 28,50$ at customs just for opening the box (Germany). Please don't forget to label the packages in the future!
I've been well pleased with the copper Martac I bought here nearly a year ago. It has been in the watch-pocket of my jeans everyday. Contemplating this drop since I like a push button but am a bit leery of the endurance of same
Ogen_the_MaticI also have the Cu Maratac AAA in my pocket everyday. I joined this drop simply because I'm a flashlight nut, a Cu nut, and most importantly, a Cu flashlight nut!!
Ogen_the_MaticLumintop makes a titanium version of this light that is available on Amazon. It uses an electronic touch sensitive tail switch instead of a rubber button. That should solve your durability fears, plus it allows you to stand the light up in "lamp" mode.
Dr.OetqerHey Dr O,
Has the switch been holding up for you? I really the Maratac lights for durability and styling, but these Lumintops' push-buttom activator is so much more convenient than the twist. I had my first or second brass one go bad. Massdrop had me a new one in the wind almost immediately (killer service), but I remain concerned that these units have marginal electronics. What has your experience been?
Bigdog1I have had a few martac's. One died just out of the warranty. And i contacted them. They were far less than helpful. I stopped buy them. Because of this.
