Product Description
Handcrafted in Italy by the artisan leatherworkers at Luca Natalizia Legatoria, each Manufactus "No Bag" Leather Journal is cut from full-grain, vegetable-tanned calf leather, selected from one of six tanneries outside Rome that have been supplying the company since just after its founding in 1910. Linkdeathbought one of these when i went to milan last year, still using the book that came with it in the first place. unfortunately, there tends to be a lot of bleed through and feathering. Im using noodler's inks (Warden series and Red-Black), on EF and F nibbed pens.
you can of course, get a better notebook from rhodia or clairefontaine, so long as its A5, and no more than 4 cm thick, you can replace the stock one.
TacticalDanI'm debating buying this, but if I do get it, I'll put in a Seven Seas Writer or Standard, sold by Nanami Paper. These are a bit expensive (I'm a fountain pen user and these notebooks have excellent quality paper for fountain pens--the mystical Tomoe River Paper). You could check out jetpens.com or gouletpens.com for other notebooks of the A5 size.
TacticalDanI read [somewhere] that the Clairefontaine Collection 1951 Notebooks

are good replacements and work very well with our fountain pens. There was a sale of these not long ago and I gabbed 5 especially for this leather journal cover.
So will this ship from Italy to the USA and then back to Europe for European customers? The shipping price is actually very reasonable, but on general principle that isn't something that I really wanting to be supporting doing(especially as it adds tax on as well as carbon).
warriorscotas the shipping to the uk is $5 I suspect its being shipped direct to here (uk ) from There (italy) Anything going from the USA to the uk is about 5 times that price
csbruunSo yeah...that's a great question, and I would love to know that myself. I didn't ask, here's why:
In the course of trying to do business with a very small Italian company, we needed many, many other details about this drop - leather colors, tanning process, sizes and paper styles, production schedule, shipping times, customs tariffs, etc. Fortunately, their English is better than my Italian.
So, now that we got the actual drop handled and I am not risking complicating all of this any further, I would be more than happy to inquire and will post an update if/when we get one.
Thanks @csbruun and @RubyOpaltones@katerchen. I hope to have an answer before these ship.
Here is yet another vote to add the option of "No Thanks" to the refills. Great buy as a folio cover, crap buy if it's $24 more just so Ai can throw away another 3 stacks of non-fountain pen friendly moleskine paper. I hope, HOPE!, that this is just a simple oversight and not a horrible bait and switch scheme.
