Fuck, I keep waiting for this drop to go away so I can stop rationalizing to myself why I need it. I do not need this. I do not need to spend $400 on headphones.

CamperIVI've got a beat up pair of AKG K271mk2 that are at death's door. I need something with a closed back that doesn't suck, and while the 271s are nice, they aren't as nice as my old HD580s.
sockpuppyseriously! i already have the Ebonies and I'm sitting here wondering if it's worth having both...I mean, they do sound a little different....why not?
AlexRoblesFrom what I've heard the difference isn't enough to own multiple, but you may prefer one over the other... I'd think you'd be better off putting your $400 toward a completely different pair.
AlexRoblesI heard these are much better than the ebonies...I have THIS version, and it's getting hard to resist buying another pair.....I wouldn't be able to resist if I only owned the ebonies or purplehearts...
tooitchyThey are all the exact same drivers and construction, so I don't think any are inherently better than the others. It really just depends on what sound signature fits your listening habits. Ebony being the most neutral of the three (still very U-shaped tuning and overall NOT a neutral headphone), and Purplehearts having the most forward bass, I think a lot of people would disagree with the notion that these are superior to the others. They are all pretty similar, at the end of the day, and if you weren't doing a direct A-B comparison (let's say you listen to them an hour apart from each other) I'm not sure one would be able to tell too much of a difference. Definitely not $400 worth of difference.
