Tactical watches are great when you’re in the field or going for a swim, but they don’t transition well at the office or out on the town. Dress watches look great, but you’d never wear one on a camping trip Read More

Hi all! I want to take a quick moment to introduce myself. I’m Leo, the new product manager for Massdrop Watches. I’m excited to be working on delivering the Ember to you in the coming weeks and want to share a quick update.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week we wrapped up production of the hands, dials, and bands, and have moved on to assembly steps for these pieces. Currently, the indices and hands are being fitted with T100 tritium vials - the brightest rating for tritium. The next step will be to install the completed hands and dial on to the movements.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The titanium case and crown manufacturing are also underway, with an additional PVD coating step needed for the black models. When each case and crown is complete, the sapphire round is pressed in, and the movement assembly is installed then cased up. Following QC testing, the last step will, of course, be packaging and shipping these out to your doorstep.
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Below are a few new images of production components. We’re very pleased with the results so far and can’t wait to see the hands and dial installed and cased, glowing with T100 Tritium.
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ll be back with another update as we get closer to shipment. In the meantime, I’m here for any questions.

leopadronSince you have both blue and green tubes available, why not allow for a choice on each dial color? It is well known that the blue tubes are the dimmest to the human eye while the green are the easiest to see. Also and this is technical, how much tritium do these watches average since the designation T100 means up to T100. A watch could be only T26 and still be designated T100. Most watches stamped T100 don't come anywhere near that level of tritium. Even big names like Ball don't begin to get near a T100 level. Any idea what the total tritium level averages for these watches? thanks

Hey everyone,
Thanks for checking out our first-ever watch collaboration! We're pleased to be launching this product that was developed in close collaboration with ArmourLite.
Even before Watches grew out of the Men’s Style community and became its own community, ArmourLite’s watches have been popular here with our Everyday Carry community for their tough build quality and tritium illumination. In the 2 ½ years that ArmourLite has been offering their timepieces to the Massdrop community, members have purchased over 800 of their various models. However, ArmourLite is focused primarily on building watches that are designed for first responders and the typical aesthetic is more towards ‘overbuilt and tactical’ than ‘refined and stylish.’
We recognized that many members in the Everyday Carry community really enjoyed watches with tritium illumination, but that members in the Watches community were mostly interested in watches with slimmer cases, cleaner dials, and more classic/dressy styling. When we looked around to see what else was available with T100-rated tritium, a titanium case, and modern styling, we didn’t see much around for under $500.
So, recognizing there wasn’t much available that offered the features that members from this different but related communities were interested in, we decided to make a watch that offered all this at a reasonable price. We started with the popular Field Series as a baseline, and we gave it a full makeover as well as some cool upgrades. Check them out side-by-side:
search
Aside from the different look of the dial, here's a quick list of upgrades: * T25 --> T100 tritium * Steel --> Titanium case * Date only --> Day and Date complications * Thicker and heavier Armourglass --> thinner, lighter, scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal * 13.4mm --> 10mm case height * 192g --> 96g weight (with metal bands)
And make sure to click <PLAY> on the video in the description page for a great view of the tritium glow! I hope that helps to shed some light on how this collaboration evolved, please let me know if you have any questions.
And of course, a few housekeeping notes as we get started on the launch of our first watch:
* The drop is limited to 1000 total units. * This watch cannot be shipped to France (due to tritium restrictions), or Germany and Italy (due to battery restrictions) * Members who join the drop in September will see their transactions processed on September 30th. Members who join in October will see their transactions processed when the drop ends on October 12th.

JonasHeinemanWhy not make the hands on the black face silver like on the other dials? The only thing allowing contrast with the black dial are the tubes and that doesn't really allow for accurate time setting. Numerals on all dials could also be about 20% larger. I'd definitely join the drop if that were an option.

JonasHeinemanHey there, As stated by you, shipping to Germany isn't possible due to restrictions on the import of lithium batteries. As I'd really like to have one, I was wondering if it wouldn't be possible to get one delivered without a battery... Would be a shame if I couldn't get one just because of the battery..

I was setting an alarm to make sure I made the drop until I noticed the “Massdrop” branding on the face. Won’t be buying it now.
The other thing that both the EDC and watch communities love is a sterile product — the watch guys have a little more tolerance for branding as long as it’s a sought-after brand, but I can’t imagine that many of them would list Massdrop as a prestige watchmaker.
TL;DR — Thought it was a sterile, unbranded watch and was really excited. Figured out that it’s not, and now don’t care at all. Nobody wants to see the Massdrop branding, especially not on a watch.

J0hnKimbleSame here, I will skip on this one and logo is the biggest reason why.

J0hnKimbleThe white face with white logo is about as subtle as you can get without it being sterile.

Personally, I'll take the rather subtle Massdrop logo over all the somewhat obnoxious branding ArmourLite normally plasters all over the dial. I have several Traser and Ball watches with T25 Tritium and love them, I'll jumping all OVER this one.

LakeTravisI wish they could have compromised and went with an "MD".

Totally agree. This is a fantastic watch at a very reasonable price - Ti, T100, sapphire, clean design and a very modest size/thickness. I don't understand all the complaints about the quartz movement - perfectly acceptable, and frankly preferable, for many in a watch of this type. I saw the blue face (already have a black Armourlite T100) and considered my money gone. Until the logo. Honestly, it's so subtle I missed it at first glance on my small screen. Now it's really bugging me. What to do?

Super happy with mine as well. First tritium watch and first white dial. Very happy with how subtle the mass drop logo came out. The pins were kind of brutal for sizing compared to comparable watches but at least they won’t be falling out.

First, they are not just a retailer on this product. It’s a collaboration, meaning design and manufacturing decisions were a joint effort. So this is decidedly not “someone else’s product” and would not exist in this form without MD.
Second, its not advertising, its branding. Advertising is to encourage an action, branding is to signify ownership. Some of the best knives I own have th Massdrop logo on it, and when someone asks, I get to tell them about a cool website that caters to niche markets and enthusiasts. If the logo bothers you, just skip any items that start with “Massdrop X ...”
Zero other companies are doing what MD is doing and they want just a little bit of credit for it. That’s more than fair.

I have to leave a comment that has nothing at all to do with this drop (overpriced) or the price raise from the first time it dropped (25%) or it's dial (super boring) or uncoated titanium watches (way too scratch prone and impossible to polish out): My comment is this, the redesign of the Massdrop site is a CRIME TO HUMANITY. There was literally nothing at all wrong with it, so why 'fix' it. It is so hard to just find the watches category, it's like you're trying so hard to make me look at all the other categories, and guess what? I don't want to! And why does the desktop version and the mobile version have to be so dissimilar? Anyway, in case you at Massdrop care about feedback I just want to down vote very earnestly the site redesign.

Glen8I agree wholeheartedly. The new design adds complexity and confusion, not to mention the black & yellow theme. And there's something else - you're now engaging a crapton of additional websites/services to display all this additional garbage and capture browsing feedback. It used to be a decent enough experience to find what I was looking for. Now it's a real pain. I hate it. As for the watch itself - not sure what possessed you to dump the Armourlite logo in favor of a massdrop one. What were you thinking?

Glen8And it's odd to me that instead of just redesigning it once and being done with it, there seem to be daily changes. Like todays name change to 'Drop' instead of Massdrop. Get it done and over with already

The logo is actually done really, really well in my opinion, using a color that is the same shade as the dial makes it barely visible, I think they thought this through and went a really classy direction, you don't see that too often where the use of a logo is concerned. Good job Massdrop!

I have the T25 in Black finish. Like the ring that protects the crystal from scratches. This new design eliminates that, presumable in effort to make the case thinner. Wonder how the sapphire crystal without this ring will compare in durability? I am disappointed in the deterioration of the finish with my watch after 13 months. I have a desk job and use another watch when I'm working around the house. But, overall, a very nice product. T25 visibility is fine

" We’ve also swapped ArmourLite’s Armourglass crystal in favor of a more traditional sapphire crystal. " Gone from a really great watch to a walmart watch. It now has less durability. Only thing it has going for the watch is the tritium. I was going to go for the watch even with the Massdrop logo. Now not for $250. Guys you messed the watch up trying to bring the price down.

Mick123So you really believe the marketing behind 'Armourglass'? Sapphire is the second hardest substance on planet Earth, it doesn't scratch. I have never heard of a sapphire crystal breaking

Glen8So then you must believe the marketing behind sapphire. Look, the company sells to first responders that can put the Armourglass through its paces. Have you heard anyone complaining from the first responders community about the Armourglass. If so, please point me in the direction of the information so I can read it too and be informed like you are. People talk like sapphire is the be all and end all. Sure it holds up very well to scratching but what about physical abuse where the crystal is smacked hard against a hard solid object.
Just some idle thoughts from a idle person...........
