MHarrisMost Ferrum Forge knives now at Amazon are being sold at least at a $50 premium over what they were usually sold for on Drop.
You can go directly to the Ferrum Forge website and buy directly from the manufacturers at far less prices than Amazon, or you can go to https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Ferrum-Forge--1769 BladeHQ "BLADEHQ" and buy the same knives for even less than the manufacturer sells them for in their store. Warning, BladeHQ has been selling them almost faster than they can get them in, so at some times their stock is also low, so keep checking back or you can make a special request and they will see their ETA, which can usually be expedited for you.
I cannot believe I am saying this, but DROP moving their complete knife products to Amazon was a great mistake for their customers. I only hope DROP gets rich off their keyboards.
mike.friedkinMike, you are correct that most knives are more expensive on Amazon. However, not all knives are more expensive (Mordax, Thresher, Orca, Cyrus, Raine, Gent Select) and most knives have just a $10 premium with the highest at $20. The small Amazon premiums only cover a small fraction of the increased tariffs, commodity prices, and Amazon fees. In fact, the $10 premiums in most cases do not even cover the increased tariffs. Pricing increases are never popular but in this case were necessary to ensure we could continue to support the Outdoors category.
Here is a closer look at some of the the pricing premiums compared to Drops retail price:
Drop + Bradford Guardian = $10 premium
Drop + Eric Ochs Orca = $10 Premium on G-10, $10 cheap for CF/Mokuti
Drop + Eric Ochs Otter = $10 Premium
Drop + Gavko Nurse = $10 Premium
Massdrop x Gavko Thresher = Equal
Drop + Brad Zinker Dogtooth = $10 Premium
Drop + Terzuola Cyrus Persian = $10 cheaper
Drop + Kirby Raine = $10 cheaper
Drop + Ferrum Forge Dao = $15-20 Premium
Drop + Ferrum Forge Crux = $15-20 Premium
Drop + Ferrum Forge Mordax = Equal
Drop + Ferrum Forge Gent Select = Equal
Drop + Degnan Emrose = $10 Premium
Will there be a restock of the Dao in circuit board green? I'm a big fan of the knife; but it crushs my soul that the circuit board version is sold out :/
Ordered this on 30th March, shipped 15 May, now I'm sitting in quarantine checking the tracking everyday...starting to think drop took 'ship' quite literally, I cry.
The quality of the knife is great. Unfortunately is the detent of the knife so strong that I cant open it either with the flipper tab or with the opening hole. So I open it with 2 hands. Once its open and in my hand its very ergonomicly and feels like an extension of my hand.
As the handle is very ergonomicly I dont use the finger choil. So I would definitly buy another version without the finger choil - and a normal detent that enables the use of the flipper tab of course.
i see the color options are very limited. when will the whole line be available again. and is there a chance to get the original design in the green? i love the green but the plain frames look the best.
Just got my Dao yesterday in the mail! Overall impressions are a bit mixed, but at no fault of the knife itself. The knife arrived in perfect shape, and has the same impressive build quality as my Falcon. My only letdown is that I think I had hyped this in my own mind to be a "plus sized Falcon" when in fact, it really isn't. It's got a longer blade, but the knife proportions in general are much more slender. I think that once I start to use it I'll stop worrying about that and will find it to be a great knife, but now I'm hoping that a "Falcon +" can become a reality. I absolutely love the proportions of the Falcon, I just wish it was larger. The Spiderco Manix 2 is my most carried knife, and what I really want is a Falcon in that size. This knife didn't quite meet that goal for me.
UPDATE 5/12
Hi everyone,
Due to an unexpected delay, we’re tracking behind on shipping the Ferrum Forge Dao knives. We’re working to get them shipped in the next few days. Our apologies for the delay and additional time needed to get these out the door.
UPDATE FOR JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH AND APRIL PURCHASERS
Hi everyone,
We have a quick update on your Ferrum Forge Dao knife. Production is very nearly complete, expected to be finished by the end of this week. After this, the knives will be delivered to our warehouse and shipped out to all of you. We expect that we’ll meet the estimated ship date of April 30th, but wanted to give a heads up that it may take just a few extra days for all orders to get out the door. Thank you so much for your patience. Looking forward to getting these in your hands soon.
JaleesaGEarth to Jonas. What makes you think the the delay was unexpected. Perhaps to you and your staff, but you have trained your customers to expect delays. What would be most unexpected would be for the knife to arrive on time. Or.............GASP!............early.
