Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in the Massdrop x MEE Audio Pinnacle PX! This has been an exciting project to work on with the folks at MEE. With many of our partners, we have to spend a great deal of time explaining the audiophile community. First that it exists, second what it cares about (general terms), and third what specifically our audiophile community wants out of a product (as determined from activity on Massdrop and direct input from select community members). With MEE, they understood all of that right off the bat. Mike Jones and his team were excellent to work with, and the product is better for it.
The Pinnacle PX is based on the Pinnacle P1 (http://bit.ly/2tzs0St).
What is the same?
The sound signature is the same as the P1. All the discussions around the P1's sound on Massdrop are very positive so no changes needed there.
The shape of the earpieces. You can wear these up over the ear or straight down, just like the original P1.
The material of the earpieces. The earpieces are still a Zinc alloy, no changes there.
What's different?
The finish on the ear pieces. The earpieces of the PX are finished in a cerakote pvd coating. This is a robust coating that is scratch-resistant (we understand these won't always be in the case).
The cables are much more robust. The cable itself is a higher gauge, but the connectors have also been reinforced internally and externally for a longer life and sweat resistance (these will do great at the gym).
The price, these are $114.99 shipped to your door in the united states with affordable shipping to all our international destinations.
Thanks for your interest! I'll be offline most of the holiday weekend but I'll do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion : )
Just received my pair and right out of the box the left ear cable is defective. Has massdrop replied yetto you? I have just messaged them and awaiting response Aswell.
To be clear, if I wasn't, the nuforce would be easier to drive than the pinnacle and if I may make another suggestion if you are going to get an amp to use with iem's make sure it has a low output impedance, not how much power it makes at a given ohm load but the amp output impedance, it will be listed in the specs separately from the output power
I've owned the PX since September and the coating peeled off to the point where almost half of it is gone on both sides. So might as well just remove all of it and brush shine the earpieces. I used the 3M sanding sponges and nail polishing stick.
Do you think i should paint over it to add protection?
Hey everyone, quick update from MEE Audio. They've been following the discussion and saw all the requests for a non-mic cable. While they can't include it for free, they have agreed to make it available at checkout for 50% off their standard retail price. Where this cable normally goes for $30, it is now available at checkout for $15.
All those who have already purchased and would like to add the cable can do so from their transaction page.
Thanks for your interest in this drop and feel free to respond to this post with your questions, I'll be checking back over the weekend and early next week.
I owned the p1s and honestly could not tell the difference between the cables even with a good source and amplifier. I think it's mostly snake oil because as far as I can find there is no measurable difference in the signal between the two.
Been using it for a week, light use for daily commute. The coating on the earbuds are easily peeling off. Is it a defect? Anyone experiencing this issue?
@Will is it possible to talk with MEE Audio and offer a cable without a mic?
I think a lot of people would be happy 'cause we use it with players so no need for mic there.
Thanks!
I have tried literally dozens of IEM's. Not one has fit my ear. My ears LOOK normal. My doctor has never mentioned any deformity regarding my ears, so I am at a loss. I just want one that fits comfortably in my ear, doesn't fall out, and sounds good. Is this the one?
Yes, I read all that, which has nothing to do with wearer comfort. I don't think the P1s are uncomfortable but something more comfortable would be nice, maybe a little lighter in weight.
gstupakI've had my P1 for over a year. Although I do agree the shells & cable can be a little heavy, I consider that a plus. Short of the drivers or internals failing, the shells are indestructible. The cable quality and construction are amazing for what you pay. I've used them at the gym and gotten them caught on equipment and they've held up really well. The price of a replacement P1 mic cable is $34.99. Shure charges $31.95 for their mic cable, but it's much thinner, isn't braided & durability is shite. I think the weight of the P1 cable is a fair trade-off. As to the added comfort of the new cable, I think MD & MEE tried to address that by changing the material of the cable, as stated in the last line I quoted. The over-ear portion of my cable has hardened somewhat, making it a little less pliable so that the cable does not wrap around the ear as well as it used to, so I'm hoping this new compound addresses that.
This is the bs I've been dealing with. I understand my situation is unique but I'll let you judge for yourself.
Me:
There's no say that could be correct. Please expedite (still later then original ship date) my order or I'm not going to receive the headphones at all. That's a lot worse then "not ideal". That just defeats the purpose of this whole thing completely. I'm in danger of getting on that plane without the headphones.
I bought an expensive headphone amp specifically for these headphones, after researching them. Please.
Thank you,
Erland

An order cannot take 6 days to prepare for shipment. That is ridiculous! I paid on Sept 29. Estimated ship date is now Oct 5th. Refund my money and cancel please. I'm not going back and forth anymore. Take this as a lesson in how you can improve your business, by communicating clearly how long these may take to ship.
People have different circumstances anf they need to take that into consideration.
Thank you
