Massdrop is pleased to bring you the first release of these mechanical pencils after Andrew Sanderson's wildly successful Kickstarter campaign raised 34 times his initial goal. A mechanical designer based in Austin, Texas, Sanderson was driven to create a mechanical pencil with an intriguing design that didn't reveal its components and function at first glance Read More

I wouldn't mind the price if I didn't lose my pencils. Otherwise I might as well use cheap ones that I'm not worried about losing and spend a fraction of the retail on these.

I love these kind of mechanical pencils. I would hop on to the boat if the vendor promised a 0.07mm lead. I'm the kind of guy that prefers to have a pair of 0.05mm and 0.07mm on myself at all times.
Verdict: I would only buy in if they were at either the bottom or second bottom in pricing.
Hi everyone -- Great news! We reached out to the vendor, and he has offered the community an even lower price if 40 or more units are sold. We've extended the drop through the weekend and hope this will help everyone to get the best price on this handmade pen.
We don't expect this will delay shipping times much, if at all. Thanks for participating!

They look great but I'd pay $65 for a brass one in 0.7mm. So until that's a thing, I think I'll pass.

I'd really love to get one of these but unfortunately I really dislike 0.5mm the leads are too fragile for my taste, and generally I like the look of the bolder thicker lines of 0.7mm and 0.9mm anyway.
Maybe he'll start making them in larger sizes soon?

I'd like to see a picture of the mechanism before buying any mechanical pencil, especially for a piece of this expensive.

tx.bHey @tx.b -- I will need to check with our photographers and the vendor to see if we can make shots available that would show the interior mechanism. Thanks for asking, I will do my best.

Found one. I thought it was a brass mechanism, but it isn't.

The reason I didn't back this on Kickstarter was because of the eraser. It's awesome that he provides extras with each pencil, but there is no information on how to get more later on, or if he made the erasers a "standard" size (like what a BIC pencil might use). I would hope they are a common size that could be bought from a larger company that has a smaller risk of going out of business. Otherwise, $90 is a lot to risk on something that I might have to buy custom erasers for or that I can't get an eraser for in 5 years.
His Kickstarter page indicates that he is the only source for more erasers for this specific pencil:
"The erasers will be available in packs of five, if not before the end of the campaign, certainly soon after it finishes. I understand that as soon as the eraser wears down on a mechanical pencil it starts sitting around. I don’t want that to happen. I will also make them reasonably priced and convenient to buy online well after the Kickstarter project."
Does anyone know what type of erasers the refills are and whether or not you have to buy them from him every time you want more?

wrelamHey @wrelam, re: erasers - They are 6mm x 10mm size, and will be available on Amazon beginning in early April; we'll post a link to Andrew's store here so members can find it easily.

JonasHeinemanThanks for contacting him and finding the exact dimensions of the eraser. That's exactly the information I was looking for!
Also, I just measured the eraser on a BIC pencil (

), and it is 6.5mm x 10mm.
