If you are looking for a DAP, this is a great price for the sound you get. Lots of power to drive most headphones. If you don't mind short battery life and the finicky SD card slots. I have not experienced the software issues mentioned by other reviewers.

Taki888It can drive the HE4XX pretty good. The HD6XX are a little harder to drive. They sound okay, but leave wanting a little more.

Gozzer2How long have you had yours? Still running without any issues? I started looking these up. I wonder why there is sale for the #1 instead of the #1S. There are hardly any online sellers for these, discontinued perhaps? I’m returning the Sony NW-A55 so I hope this #1 model is a good upgrade in sound or at least the same as the a55.

Taki888I have The 1S model, which might explain why the are no issues.

Taki888taki888 just curious, why are you returning the NW-A55? Been looking at that or the A45, seems like in this price range the options for a current DAP are limited. the #1 and the A45 (and even the A55) are essentially all models that are a few years old.

davidkhouYes, I agree with you on the limited options in this price range. For my own ears I find the a55 is too clean. I’m not sure why but it was hard to listen to. The a45 I would say warmer and easier to listen to vs. the a55. I’ve decided to take the risk and go for the Opus #1 here on Drop. It also has a 10 band EQ vs. Sony 5 band EQ. I don’t know why but both a45 and a55 requires creating a database every time you power up. A55 seemed to take even longer. I love the Sony’s build and GUI. That I will miss but it really comes down to the sound. I’ve been looking for that wider sound stage, better imaging DAP but just can’t convince myself anything over $250. If you are not too critical and looking for specific sound quality, the a45 is great for the price.
