A military-inspired watch suited for everyday wear, the Defender is all about practicality. Orient’s Multi Eyes 46B40 movement system denotes the date at 6 o’clock and the day at 3 o’clock, and has a 24-hour indicator between 10 and 11 o’clock Read More
cagenutsI have multiple watches with 24 hour indicators. It appears that you may be to stupid to understand the value. In the future, I suggest avoiding insulting your fellow shoppers. Or, buy the watch and see, if in fact, the 24 hour indicator kills you (in-jest).
I'm not well versed in the way of watches so please excuse my ignorance. Does this watch need to be wound once a day or every 40 hours or is it like a seiko that gets wound from being worn throughout the day?
To jump start an auto, you would hold the watch in the palm of your hand with the dial up and use a motion similar to swirling a glass of wine from side to side. Once you shake it side to side for a few seconds, the watch will start and you're good to put it on your wrist.
Just shake it *gently* from side to side for a couple of minutes, you do not need to shake it hard. The rotor that winds the mainsprings swings at the slightest movement.

Love how the video states that the MSRP is $250 but Masssrop shows $285.
Can we please stop with those fictional prices?
Very informative article, thanks!
Poopsticker, I have a 20 year old 100M chronograph that just started getting moisture inside the crystal after being splashed/showered. The o-ring gasket is completely brittle and will be replaced on next battery change. I don't think you'll have any issues with a brand new watch for quite a while ; )
I don't know what movement my orient has, but it has only the crown and no setting assist button. Crown can set day or time, but date is set back and forth thru midnight. How does this one set day and date?
☺ Just enjoying some new watches lol, my alpinist arrived during the week, hooray. Immediately swapped out the band. Also received my blue mako on SS bracelet from Amazon which is very very nice, nd now the defender and sarb033 are on their way! I really need to take a break and just enjoy them for a bit I think. How are you liking your new toys?
l3xm4rkIt`s nice to see you still around here was a bit boring without you :)
Long wait for my new toys to arrive... Maybe they will arrive next week LOL
SuperXISMI wouldn't count myself as a watch expert, but I think most watch enthusiasts would agree that the Bambino and Defender serve completely different roles in a collection. The Bambino is indeed a classy watch, but it can look too formal for lots of everyday scenarios if you dress casually. At the end of the day though, both are solid pieces.
i've had the grey version for a couple months now and it has held up really nice! the lume stands out in the dark, the day dial is extremely helpful and i actually like the 24h indicator. it's a great field watch and i've taken it in rivers, lakes, dirt and mud and it wipes clean every time. i replaced the leather straps with silicone straps and it's extremely comfortable and not bulky.
if i wear it all day and take it off at night, the watch will still function the next morning. there is NO reserve indicator, but that's a non issue for me since i like wearing watches to sleep.
for the price i paid, i'm very happy with my purchase and if i had an opportunity to purchase a different orient watch, i would.
On the bright side it seems to be fairly thin at 11.5mm (~ on par w/ the Glycine combat Sub and the Seiko Sarb series). On the not so bright side, 22mm lugs and a subpar movement hurts. For one it costs them nothing to add hacking/hand winding...….. plus the 22mm lugs looks to be slightly disproportionate on this watch, 20mm would have been a better choice. Nothing devastating or unexpected at this price point but less than desirable.
W/ that said, it has visual appeal and a catchy name. Not to mention, at ~$100 you can't expect perfection. So, what should you do?
Do not acquire this as an impulse buy, otherwise it's a nice watch overall.
Furthermore, I doubt that steel bracelet is of great quality. Save $10 and get the band. Or throw it onto a Nato/similar strap like below. Worn and Wound has done a decent review on this watch, so I've thrown the link to that below.
SpiritOneIt's not just a bracelet. Case finish is also different. Leather strap versions have beat blasted case, and bracelet versions have brushed case.
SpiritOneAlways go for the steel bracelet version--occasionally, even inexpensive bracelets aren't half bad and you'll never find a crapy one for ten bucks. On the other hand, you can buy dozens of NATO and Zulus for peanuts and swap them out as you like. Should you decide to flip a watch later, your unworn, pristine stainless bracelet will help you fetch top-dollar.
Just got mine opened. First purchase on this site. I'm really impressed with how Massdrop packed it in the shipping box. I was regretting not being able to choose the grey version, but now that I have it I'm glad I got the black one instead. Loving how it looks with a green NATO strap :)
Secret_Agent_ManThats a sweet looking color for your Defender, I'd never think to try green!
You're right about the grey though, I was bummed out and felt like I settled for black. But the high contrast markings and fact that it will be more versatile with more colors like yours have me completely happy with the black.
