chopsoutukAlas, I haven't bought this (or any) bivy yet. (I got into "hot tent" camping & spent my pennies on that gear instead.) I still want a bivy to push my cold camping limits. Been a few years since I last did my research on this bivy, so there might be new data points on the interwebs now, or YouTube reviews. If I need a distraction today, I'll try and find an answer for you (research is to me what TV is to other people) :-)

I've got a lot of use out of mine, and in lots of different environments... Would recommend.

I'm tempted to get into bivy camping. I'm always looking at ways to lighten my load. My hesitation here is that I'm not saving much weight. For a few more ounces, I get a full fledged tent (a 2 man no less). I currently use the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 2. Kind of expensive, but for how much I've used it, not bad. If I go the bivy route, I think I'll keep looking for something that weighs less. What other bivy setups have people used?

JhuggsCheck out Evan's Backpacking Videos on YouTube. He uses a cuben fiber tarp/bug net set up that I have to think would be lighter than this. I'm pretty sure he has a video just on his sleep system, but you get some good views of it from his regular AT videos.

JhuggsI have this exact bivy. Used it on the Coast in Northern California. Also Yosemite and other areas. Works fine, just keep in mind that it is GoreTex, doesn't breath very well when wet outside or if frost covers the outside. Get lots of condensation. Keeping the top cracked open stops most of it. Not much issues if conditions are dry. On a warm night, I just keep the lid tied open, with the bug net only.

I've got two of these. I've used them in winter on Four Peaks in Arizona - the GoreTex was great at keeping single digit windchills at bay. I just got back from using them in the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota a couple of days ago. I spent the week setting the bivy in a hammock for weather and bug protection - works great! When I first got one I slept in the snow in my yard just to give it a try, and it was good there too. Definately recommend. Don't know the exact width, but it is quite generous so would not expect any issues.

I want to try bivy camping but I suspect a tropical jungle isn't the best situation to use this particular bivy in, is it? I suspect the humidity alone would mean I'd wake up in the morning in a swamp. Can anyone confirm?

I do plan to use it with the fly open, so I'm going to give bivy camping a shot. Thanks!

I put the bug net zipper through the guy line loop. Tie and Zip. Stays up most of the time. Use my hat brim as prop above my head to give even more room for the bug net. Let me know how it works out for you.

scoutsjimdon't have a clue because I'm on the shorter slimmer side of things, 5"11 @ 163lbs, but this is known to be one of the slimmer bivys as to exactly how slim and if it will fit a wide pad i don't know, i do know i personally have a ton of room to toss and turn, I'd imagine worst case you'd fit but just wouldn't have the room to flop around like a fish out of water all night like i do.
again though, I'm kinda talking out my butt here as i really don't know, I'm just guessing based of what i imagine a wide pad would look like in there...and I've never seen your particular pad either so i don't know if their wide is more wide or less wide than the wides I'm used to seeing....lol...hope that made sense....same thing but i really don't see length being an issue, i have room for my pack most of the time at my feet depending on the load.
maybe see if you can find a spec sheet on google somewhere and get the exact measurements and compare that against your pad....and seeing as how this has plenty of height to it you should be fine if the other measurements add up.
sorry that's kinda a crap answer but it's the best i got for you man, hope it helps in some way.
