Two years after the release of the Souverän M805 Stresemann, Pelikan has announced the M405 version—displaying the distinctive anthracite stripes of its big brother, now in a popular compact size. The Stresemann series is named for Nobel Peace Prize winner Gustav Stresemann, who was known in Germany for his trademark striped suits. The new pen has a 14-karat white gold nib and many of the features of the M805, including the company’s signature piston filling mechanism. This filling mechanism utilizes the whole interior of the barrel as the ink reservoir, drawing ink when the endcap at the base of the barrel is turned.
Note: All pens come with an extra-fine nib.
Featuring translucent windows that reveal the ink reservoir through clear stripes, the celluloid acetate barrel is complemented by the glossy black resin of the cap, section, and piston knob. The threaded cap is fitted with the company’s trademark pelican-bill pocket clip, and appointed with a palladium-plated finial that bears the Pelikan logo. Finally, the M405 measures 4.9 inches capped, compared to the M805’s 5.6 inches, and weighs about half an ounce less.
