ScroogeMcDuckHa ha, not quite the same. When you hot brew coffee, the end result is a more bitter acidic coffee. Cold brewed coffee is a lot less acidic and smoother. Next time you go to your favorite coffee joint on a hot day, ask for a cold brew coffee with sweetener and cream or just black. You will see the difference!

Hey guys,
I made the mistake of buying this, before I read any of the discussions or reviews, I was kinda bummed that I wasted the money on it, but I hadn't received it yet to try it out for myself! The complaints I kept reading, they leak, they leak, they don't make strong coffee at all, its coffee flavored water, don't waste your money!
A couple of the people said to wet the bottom seal before you screw it on...that makes sense, otherwise its just going to twist and bind, and you will have a bad seal. Another guy said that maybe if you brew the coffee with the filter at the top, the coffee will be stronger. I tried those two suggestions. I bought two of the bottles, both bottles i did a course grind and filled the filters up to the brim. I made sure to wet both seals before tightening them. When i put them in the fridge, i put one upside down, and the other right side up. The one upside down brewed noticeably quicker and stronger, while the one right side up just kind of steeped along slower, although with out a single drip of water out the bottom. They both steeped a little more then 24 hours, this morning I took the one that had been upside down. It is almost too strong but really good!
So... Try wetting your bottom seal, see if that will help. You could also try a little Vaseline to lubricate the seal. Also steep it upside down, it will make a difference and you will have some great tasting cold brew!

UsrnameUnknownIt looks like your grinds too fine to be honest. I'm getting a much better brew out of mine.

FullObeansI have my burr grinder set on the coarsest setting, it does seem to still have a lot of fine powder that gets ground up. I am not complaining about the brew. I was just saying that it seems to brew better upside down, for what reason, i don't know.

I do not like this bottle.
I have this and several other Primula products. I love the brand, but I do not like this bottle. There are a lot better cold brew systems available from this brand and others.
Strainer to water ratio doesn't make for a good cold brew, and there are too many parts and gaskets to allow for a bad seal and leakage.

While reading your tips i was thinking that if steeping from the bottom doesn't work, then why not just steep with the bottle upside down? After writing that comment, have you tried steeping it upside down?
I ordered my 2 bottles, but didn't read all these comments before, now I kind of with I had! :(

This looks like one of the better designed cold-brewers I've seen. Is there a larger size available?

So if it costs $2.75 to ship one of these, how come it costs $6.75 to ship two? Seems like it would be better to make two separate purchases if that's the case...

mthayrYa I'd recommend saving yourself the buck.25 honestly. Why throw away money towards inflated shipping costs? So funny when this type of thing slips by unnoticed. Good catch 👍🏼

I received my cold brew system and have used it twice without issues. I admit that the previous post about inverting the bottle during the brewing process does indeed produce a darker result. I am well pleased with this drop. I have found a problem with my bottle (no, it does not leak), the top cap has a tendency to not want to unscrew sometimes and it feels like the SS part is trying to seperate from the plastic part. It has not happened yet but I suspect tgst it will in the future. I need to see if replacements are available.

Mine arrived. It heavily leaks. There’s also a chip in the bottom fresh out of the box. I’m disappointed.

Thanks for your help!
I did find that wetting the seal helped immensely to seal it properly. I'm still disappointed in the chip in the glass at the screw on, but now it's fine and I'm able to make cold brew coffee and also tea!
I do have some food grade petroleum available so if I need that, I will use it.

CinnamonBunnyI also had my bottle chip recently. It happened when I was trying to remove the filter, it was stuck in the jar, and when it came loose it chipped the lip of the jar. I emailed Primula, and the sent me a new one!

I got this from amazon originally took 3 tries to get one that didn't arrive broken. After trying it out it never made anything strong enough unless I only added just enough water to cover the filter. Returned product and ended up getting https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FFLY64U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Have had it since April and love it works perfect enough that now they make a 2 quart version I am going to buy that one and give the 1 quart one away to my daughter.

This is the one I have. I like it. No leaks. Strong brew. Easy to maintain.

Just got mine. No leaks like others have talked about but it definitely isn't a good design for cold brew. The ratio of coffee to water is wrong and the placement of the filter doesn't allow for good mixing. You basically have to shake it every so often for it do produce anything more than a really weak coffee flavored water. It would be better if the grounds and the water could just mix together in the container and there was filter at the opening to prevent any grounds going into your mouth when you have a sip from the bottle. With this design, the coffee is trapped in the filter basket with very little surface area of the water to interact with. Oh well, maybe I can find some other use for the bottle.

Alt101It would probably work well for loose leaf tea.

JulieCCinCOSomething vaguely similar, LibreTea https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MI1FLOY which has a screw on filter (not very fine unfortunately), and poly exterior with glass interior. Works great for me, just don't seal it tight when it's still steaming hot or pressure builds up.
