RH Preyda’s paddle stones offer a secure handle for stability when sharpening. The original paddle stones are made with soft Arkansas stone, which is good for shaping the edge of your blade. The axe-sharpening stones—designed for sharpening large blades and hatchets— feature a dual design with soft Arkansas stone on one side and hard black Arkansas stone on the other, which is good for polishing and honing the edge. To use a stone, simply add the recommended four to five drops of oil, align your blade at a 15- to 20-degree angle, stroke the blade 3 to 10 times, reverse the blade, and repeat the process.
Note: This drop includes two stones. At checkout, choose between the original paddle stone in small (base price), medium (+ $4), or large (+ $7), or choose the axe-sharpening stone in small (+ $11), medium (+ $14), or large (+ $19) for each.
Founded in Chicago in 2013, RH Preyda satisfies an industry need for handcrafted sharpening stones with a range of applications. Quarried by hand in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, each of its stones is made from 100-percent novaculite—a material known for its density and unique siliceous structure. Since novaculite’s prehistoric discovery, it’s been used to fashion arrows and axes, and today is used to make high-quality sharpening stones suitable for virtually any blade-edged tool.
