Seiko’s SKX line of divers is nothing short of classic. The dial, with its large lumed hands and hour markers, is easy to read, while the 120-click unidirectional bezel with a coin edge offers a simple method of timing a dive Read More
More 7S26 drops? Ho hum. Tired of shaking my watch like a cocktail to wind it and trying to sync the shaking so I don't start off with a time gain or loss. The NH35 costs like $5 more to make and can be hacked and hand wound like a proper modern automatic, Or maybe MD could use its immense marketing leverage and get more 6R15 Seikos?
If you must offer watches shaken, not wound, $100 should be the max price point for this rather annoying and increasingly obsolete movement. I've owned half a dozen 7S26 watches, and they have all had very ordinary accuracy, checkered service histories. and relatively short lifespans (3 to 4 years) between necessary overhauls, the cost of which often approaches 50% of the value of the watch. I don't see the appeal.
I like your thinking! :D
This is a great watch and I like the brand - just needs the slightest smidgen of updating from Seiko to be a "modern classic".
SKX007J version for $200 is nice. Can't find that on Amazon under $270.
Question is, is the J version worth the extra money over the K version? I know there is a lot of forums with the same question discussed, just wonder what you guys think here?
I agree with what you said with the possible exception of the difference in imperfections of each line. But nevertheless, I am glad that you made the right decision for you. I also sometimes opt for a specific watch taking into account the warranty. Having said that, I want to pass along to others that the warranties offered have everything to do with the place of purchase and not the models involved. If you want an OEM warranty from Seiko, then you must purchase from an Authorized Dealer whether it is a J or K item.
The video mentions ”you can find this online for about $150” and yet MD is offering it for $170. Ironic!
I have high expectations for MD and I think they should do better.
Not to mention the potential to get a refurb from an unknown source with no outlet to remedy issues that arise.
For those that don't get it you don't buy anything from massdrop. MD is simply the middle man and the seller is unknown (unlike most other middlemen i.e. Amazon).
There's deals to be had but there's also risk aversion. A mediocre deal on new old stock or potentially a refurb with no warranty and no idea who the actual seller is..... Probably a pass.
No skx013 option this time and no k2 bracelet options either on the offered models. Will pass on this drop (again) until the 013 is offered with a bracelet
Just a reminder for those who aren't aware, an SKX013 is a smaller (37mm vs 42mm) watch than the others offered. It is not the same thing as SKX007 on a stainless bracelet.
If you're partial to a stainless bracelet on the full size watch, buy the 007, and order an upgraded bracelet from Strapcode or Island Watch
If you have a lot of watches, the ones that don't hack and wind will eventually bug you
Lastly, forget all the nonsense about "J" models

SKX007 on a Strapcode Super 3D Jubilee Stainless bracelet (or whatever they're calling them this month)
Not a necessity, but kind'a cool,
RayFPoint numbers three and four... You are absolutely correct on both counts. I own two 7002 s, and one 6309. All three are modded, that's the only reason I put up with a non-winding, non hack movement. Also, I've found that my Orient Ray II with winding / hacking for $145 is a far better watch then the xks. Only my opinion, of course.
riggarobYou're right--if SKXs offered those features (especially at that price), Seiko wouldn't sell near as many Turtles, and probably a lot fewer Samurais too!
VirguleWell, if you are fine buying stuff from Asian websites, then go for it. With the exception of gnomonwatches.com, and some quality Japanese sites (seiyaJapan.com), I would steer clear of Asian web sites. Even though the SKX is cheap, there are counterfeits out there. Furthermore, there are numerous instances of people getting broken watches, then being denied a refund after they sent the watch back and they instead receive a refurb or even used months later.
You can compare Mass Drop to Amazon or other reputable sites, but offshore ebay is not the same thing. There are way too many counterfeits in Asia, even of shockingly low value items.
SkipPeWhat Asian website ? You mean Ebay.com ? When you buy on Ebay, you have buyer protection that ensures you get your money back or a replacement item at the slight whim of the buyer. Look at the seller's rating. This is a non-issue.
Damn tax always kills me living in NJ. The skx009j1 I'm interested in is $203 after tax. Available for $205 tax free from creation watches and it arrives faster. K1 version isn't much cheaper at $180 tax free on creation too, and about $175 on here . The discount just isn't worth it even for this black Friday deal. Oh well.
FlypanamThank you! I hadn't heard of their site before and just ordered myself an SKX007K1 using their discount code. $151 with a 1-year warranty and much faster shipping than this drop, lol.
