honestly if you want these save your money. since HD 58X is gonna be very close to the sound quality of HD 700(in some cases even surpass the 700)
why is that you ask?? because 58x use HD 660s modified driver which itself is based on HD 700 driver.
so essentially you'll get HD 700 sound quality at fraction of the price
gundamuNot only is this untrue, but as an owner of both, the HD 700 is in an entirely different category of sound to the HD58X. I'm not knocking the HD58X by any means, but the HD 700 is unquestionably an upgrade in sound by a wide margin albeit a different sound than the Jubilee. And the 58X driver is considerably smaller than the 660S or HD 700 as well.
Just got my HD700's. I've had them on for 1 hour so far and they are VERY comfortable. I normally wear my HD600's and these are far more comfy. I cannot assess the total sound quality yet, as they aren't broken in, but they sound great thus far. I am really surprised how little they muffle outside sounds. Obviously they are open back phones but while wearing them I can hear the outside world in very high detail. The HD600's muffle the outside world a bit but these do not at all. I have them plugged into my Darkvoice 336se right now and will switch to my Schiit later tonight. I will update more later!
cancalkiddI have noticed personally that the HD 700s barely muffle the ambient sound, probably due to the fact that there is a cup around your ear with a hole in it that is smaller than your ear. I would say it reduces directional sound, so you won't hear something that is not perpendicular to the hole quite as well, but if you snap right next to your ear, there would not be a noticeable volume decrease.
Just got my HD700s, earlier than promised. Am playing them right now with my Woo WA7 (which I also got through Massdrop) from my iPhone 8S, playing Tidal. So far I’m getting used to them, they seem excellent although I’ll have to do a side by side trial to compare with my HD600s, which I’ve used for a couple of years now. One thing, the cable is much thicker than the 600’s. They are also quite a bit more comfortable out of the box than the 600 (although they quickly broke in and can be worn for hours with no stress). I think I have my head Fi system settled for quite a while.
599 focal elear (mint, not new), 399 Rakutan dt1990 pro, or 399 Sennheiser 700? I was looking at reviews the whole day off each and still don't know what to get.. thanks. Looking for soundstage, resolution, clarity.. but people say the bigger soundstages aren't that clear? Focal elear looks good but a bit more expensive than other two.. all of them have some faults though :( is it better to get super clear but smaller soundstage, or bigger soundstage and not as clear (hint hint, this one)..
HaVoCTzuNow that I actually have HD 700, highly recommend them, and will likely buy another pair.
Best bang for the buck headphones IMO.
high quality without being extremely expensive.
Focal Utopias are waaaay better though.
Does it make sense to own these AND the HD6XX? I joined the previous 6XX drop and am tempted to get these as well. If they sound different enough and would serve different purposes (i.e. different genres, casual vs. critical listening, etc.) then it might be okay to own both. Also, would the Magni 3 compliment the 6XX and 700 well?
Next to impossible for 800s to be here with considerable price slash, and 660s? probably 7 years or so later. But 6xx is a good buy, if only massdrop ships directly to SG..
KarloktYes u right man....newer heaphones have almost no or very little chance of getting here becoz of their launch time period and current market value whereas the hd 650 are getting replaced and may be the hd700's in future. These are older guys and their value has depreciated with time but if Senn drops the newer ones then it would be a loss for them
Nice call on the DT1990 Pro. Great, great, did I say great headphones. Wonderful bass, mids perfect- not to far forward or recessed and detailed highs. A truly balanced and versatile pair of cans!
I‘ve had the HD6XX for two weeks (from previous drop) and the Beyer’s are superior. I’ve just decided to sell my HD6XX if anyone is interested.
