Product Description
For headphones in need of classic analog amplification with modern performance, the SA-1 balanced headphone amp from Singxer is a class-leading fit. Equipped with Singxer’s own custom, four-way fully discrete Class A amplifier circuit, the SA-1 is all analog—from the internals all the way to the controls Read More
I am wondering if it has an edge over Topping A90 and if it is only measurable or even audible. Regarding the pure numbers: no data seen of single ended performance so far, balanced performance slightly lower than A90. SA-1 has vent-holes which I miss a little bit on Topping hence it generates more heat than THX amps, A90 has three stage gain while SA-1 only two.
I don't see the "tubes" noted in the specs -- "ROHM differential input tube, SWD twin tubes, two pairs of ON Semiconductor 4A mid-power tubes"
By "tubes" do they mean, um, "transistors"?
When the description literally says "For headphones in need of classic tube amplification" in a description for an amp with zero tubes, it's perfectly reasonable to "talk the product down".
Well, I did say that THX was a completely different thing. Overall regardless of what you test it against THX tends to be cleaner, better separated in all regards and less colored. Goes with the analogy of 'A wire with gain'.
THX compared to class-a anything (discrete) is still usually cleaner, better separated and less colored but I feel the main difference would be the coloration and the separation (layering, imaging etc). If you look at it the other way the class-a will probably sound more cohesive and smooth and potentially play differently with different loads slightly.
Another thing to consider is class-a amps are constantly turning the vast majority of the power you give it into heat while THX amps are known to not heat up at all.
The noise floor and distortion levels of THX will almost always be lower and better which may be more apparent on the extremes of load examples. E.G. Low impedance high sensitivity IEM's and high impedance low sensitivity cans. However, it is hard to say how optimized this class-a amplifier will be for said extremes and if differences will be audible in these regards.
It will depend on what you are looking for. Most people in the audiophile review community are pushing thx since it modulates the sound to be “clean”. And creates a market for which dacs sound best or which headphones sound best with “clean” sound.
the reality is thx is like the old Dolby button on tape decks, except backwards. It’s removing color.
the audio parts companies are now just trying to squeeze whatever they can out of you. With the advent of clean sound and eventually a thx dac that totally cleans the signal we are looking at an epoch in the sound business. Prices will drop because demand for cheaper better sounding hardware will result.
i can understand if you are paying more for build quality but sound quality is now cheap, with no use for old hardware pushing the same tech. But no way should there be a headphone or amp or dac over 500 bucks. Unless it’s made with real baby seal skin or ivory , the market place will be changing here, shiit started it with the magnius and over the next year or two new companies will be able to create hardware that sounds better and is cheaper.

This amp is absolutely fantastic! It is one of the best audio purchases I've ever made. It is a level better than all the THX amps and the Jot 2. It makes everything sound clear but without any etched treble, and the bass response is tight and punchy. And unlike the flat soundstage you get with most amps (especially THX), this one gives you depth to go with its very good width. I love this amp!
PhoneheadfanAs someone who had both the Jot2 & SP400 here with the Schiit Bifrost 2 & Topping D90, Hate to break it to you but the THX SP400 is the better amp in all aspects of sound & ability.
Chessman47For what it's worth, the SA-1 just got an excellent review on the Audiosciencereview Website. Amir refers to the SA -1 as being an instrument grade product.
Six months later and this product description still fraudulently claims this thing uses tubes. It may have been initially a fault of translation, but the fact that it hasn't been corrected is inexcusable.
Kerry_MaxwellI find it quite bizarre that this is being advertised as a tube amp. I thought maybe my old eyes just couldn't spot them in the cover-off photo, but for instance ROHM is a semiconductor company and does indeed manufacture differential quad op amps, not tubes.
I wish Drop would fix this error, or ask the supplier to fix it.
Hello, how is the synergy with the Sennheiser HD 600 ? ( Soundstage, bass, etc..) how would it compare to a micro idsd black label or a chord mojo for exemple. Thx a lot
