A popular DAC/amp from SMSL Audio, the SD-793II has the ability to power high- and low-impedance headphones alike. It uses the low-jitter DIR9001 digital receiver chip, the highly regarded PCM1793 DAC chip, and the OPA2134 opamp, and supports signals up to 24 bit/96 kHz Read More
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/fire-s-audio-redkey-usb-coaxial-adapter That one is pretty expensive though, but if you look on Amazon there should be a bunch of 20usd range ones. If you need USB connectivity might as well look for another dac/amp, SD-793II is great for the money but it's not the only decent one at it's price point.. especially if you need to start buying adapters.
If I order one with a silver faceplate, will the volume knob on the product I receive be labelled "VALUME" as it appears to be in the photo in the description?
Will this DAC/Amp combo be able to drive the Massdrop Hifiman HE-350's?
Those headphones are 19 Ohm impedance, but I cannot seem to find any reference for the output impedance of the SMSL SD-793II anywhere online. Do I have to worry about damaging my headphones because of their low impedance?
stoplooking4meI took part of the HE-350 drop myself, and one thing I wanted to mention was that apparently they are over 19 Ohms to power. Originally, it was posted that it was 50 Ohms to power, and yes there was a change in details, but Will from Massdrop states that the fre'quency response and other specs actually stayed the same which was 15khz - 22khz:
"Did the product change from when we launched the drop to now? Nope. Everyone who joined this drop got the exact same thing the reviewers got, the same thing Unbox Therapy got, the product has not changed."
Moreover, most others have reported issues with powering it with mobile devices and other lower powered solutions. It stands to reason that it's actually 50 Ohms to power; I myself do see a big difference between my Beats Studios (32 Ohms) and these HE-350s when using any device. I hope this helps!
stoplooking4methe SD-793II has a very low output impedance.

(O2 = 0.5 ohm O/I
alc onboard = ~ 75 ohm O/I
Soundblaster Z = 22 ohm O/I
SD-793II = as low that it doesn't interfere with the O/I sensitive HD590's at least)
Hey no problem! I quite like the sound signature of the schiit stack. The smsl drives my Q701's with ease so I'm assuming it will be able to drive the 770pro as well but I'm not sure. I used the windows equalizer, I know this is heresy in the audiophile world but this dac/amp equalizes remarkably well, and I matched the smsl's sound signature to that of the Schiit stack by ear. You may not need to equalize it at all if the stock sound signature pairs well with your headphones. The smsl is very clean sounding and it is reasonably spacious sounding, the schiit stack is still slightly better but only slightly and not worth the additional price imho.
For those wondering this is much better than the Fiio E10k imho, the Fiio is sterile sounding in comparison and saps all life from my music, it also has a smaller soundstage. The SD-793II sounds excellent for soo little money. Just as a note this doesn't have usb, I use it with an optical cable.
This item is only $4 more on amazon but if you order it from them it will take a week to ship and if you have prime it will arrive in 2 days it will take almost a month to arrive from massdrop. Remember massdrop shipping is not free so if the item is not heaviliy discounted amazon might have a better plrice considering the shipping speed.
Der_Teufelif i order it on massdrop then i could be paying tax, they dont look at all of the packages at the customs i believe. if i order it from amazon then no i dont pay extra tax to get it into the netherlands as you can ship stuff tax free from country to country in the EU
ShotgunBFFLYeah that doesn't really seem like the best deal if you have Amazon Prime and don't want to wait so long to get it. Two days vs more than two weeks for $3 is a trade I'd be willing to make.
