Building on the success of the widely used SH-8, SMSL is back with an all-new headphone amp that ups the ante in almost every category. It’s called the SH-9, and it’s more powerful and more discreet than its predecessor, without adding extra size Read More
Um... no, the 788 is not a true balanced amp, both sides share a common ground on the other side of the plug, this one does not. Do not take my word for it, search a bit and you will find it is true.
pilezWhether something is balanced or not is derived from whether the paths to ground are symmetric not that they have separate grounds. Don't take my word for it, do some research or go to school and you will find it is true.
Honest question: How is this a “drop” when it’s the normal retail price of $290? I’m somewhat new around here, but I thought the idea was to get a bunch of people to purchase an item all at once in order to “drop” the price?
adi518You know the 3 legged designs remain stable on less than flat/even surfaces right? Having three legs isn't uncommon in audio electronics and shouldn't be viewed as a negative.
I'm not sure what's the purpose of listing these at the same price as everywhere else but with a 3 month wait time. Some places sell without tax and shipping and are immediately available.
I've been looking for a new amp for my Blu-ray/TV setup (after my out-of-warranty 789 died); I've considered this amp, but have been leaning to the Gustard H16, which is truly balanced. But why in the world l anyone buy this from Drop when you could get it (or the SU-9 DAC) for the exact same price from Apos, with a longer warranty and better overall customer service? (This is even more true for me, since I would actually have to pay a higher price since I am in NJ where Drop has it's warehouse and have to pay NJ sales tax; Apos does not charge state sales tax.)
