TommypsychoMine got shipped 23.nov. Last update stated it was shipped out of the country at the same day, 23 nov. But I know it is a lie from previous shippent updates on other packets from China, it needs at least 3 to 4 same updates that states it is shipped out of the country. Haven't arrived to Norway yet. I bet it is stolen.

Deimos87Mine showed last week. It's great but my new 4k TV didn't like it. When I sent optical out from the new TV to the dac, it kept cutting out and distorting even though I was sending PCM. So I put the SU-8 in my bedroom headphone setup with the SMSL THX headphone amp fed with optical from my old Vizio TV and it works fine. Something about the LG optical out wasn't playing nicely with the SU-8. So now my old Emotiva XDA-2 is on 2.1 living room duty. It's all good. Definitely not shipping the SU-8 back to China lol.

TommypsychoI wonder if the optic signal is behaving weird and not in the right frequency (the speed), right amplitude, spread out light and the pulses are a mess. There is some science to optical cables. But I wouldn't go so far into it and blame it. Try a shorter cable. There isn't much data flowing through it so I wonder why it should be such an issue.

Deimos87Thanks Deimos! I tried several different short cables just in case that was the issue. I think it's the output format from the TV. It says PCM, but like you say, there are many different bit rates grouped in with general PCM. The weird thing is the two older, cheaper TVs I tried output just fine through the SU-8. I was noticing some distortion in the right channel XLR output from the SU-8 in the bedroom headphone setup, so I'll try using the standard RCA outputs to see if it's just a defect in the XLR outputs. I reached out to Drop's Support Team to see if they know of any fixes. Thanks for your help and I hope your dac shows up soon.

Deimos87Ah what a bust dude! Amazon has it for $250 with additional 5% coupon, but that's still $230ish. TBH with you, comparing it to my older Emotiva XDA-2, the SU-8 does sound really thin. The filters and modes seem to do diddly or near diddly. If you need balanced, you have only a few options in the price range. If you can forego XLR outs, I'm sure there are better sounding options for the money. Just my opinion. I really wanted to like this dac. I absolutely love the SP200 from SMSL, but this one is somewhat of a let down. Hang in there Deimos.

TommypsychoThe DAC came back now on preorder. I did just reorder. Do you know if I can control any equalizer settings on the computer to make the sound better for my ears? I know about the simple windows one. I have also read what you say about those filters and settings in the DAC, that there is no difference. I had a small hope it could be some "upload settings" to the dac for the equalizer. I currently have the 789 THX connected to line out from a CreativeTitanium HD, and my HD6XX desperately needs extra bass if I am listening to music. But a cool plan I have is to connect the DAC line out to a small car subwoofer amplifier I have, to drive two "shakers" those subwoofers that you can screw on the chair or under a sofa. One other idea for a equalizer is to buy one cheap that they use for music performances, I have seen 32band ones for 150 USD or so. But they are amplifiers inside or so. Might degrade the quality. But maybe not noticeable. Would be perfect to compensate for hearing loss I guess?

Deimos87You never want to use any digital EQ stuff on the computer. You actually want to make sure to disable all that processing stuff to get the best sound. The 789 THX is a sweet ass amp. I have HD650s, and while I have loved them for years, but they're light on bass and veiled. The shaker idea is creative, but hooking up car sub amps indoors is not a great plan electrically. Don't use a cheap external EQ either. I've run professional PA systems for over ten years, and even my really nice XLR EQs degrade the signal chain and don't add any benefit unless you're only taking out frequencies. It sounds to me like you would be better off grabbing some different headphones. 6XX can't push the amount of bass it sounds like you're looking for. I picked up a pair of Phillips Fidelio X2HR on Amazon before Christmas for under $100, and even though I paid $350 for my HD650s (same cans as your 6XX), I actually prefer the Fidelio. They're way more fun sounding, more bass too. Just my opinion. Wish you the best on your search.
