Avoid this turntable! I own one of these and it has a major flaw. The optical speed sensor puts a high-pitched noise into the system anytime the platter spins -- bad circuit board design or something. Despite TEAC being able to reproduce the problem in their own testing (both in USA and in Japan), they told me shove it.
Read these ongoing discussions from my recent posts on reddit, Steve Hoffman forums, and Audio Karma. Two reddit users report having the exact same problem (to different degrees) and most people are just horrified at the build quality and lack of support.

You were warned! Make TEAC acknowledge and fix the problem before giving them your money. If you get a bad unit they're going to tell you your opinion doesn't matter because they don't see the big deal.

I received my turntable today and after a quick setup I am now listening to Circa Survive's Blue Sky Noise and it sounds amazing at this price point. I do not experience any such high-pitched noises nor does it make any noise at all when the record is not playing. I paired mine with a peachtree nova300 and couldnt be more pleased with the sound or the savings massdrop afforded me.

I'm not suggesting you should hear a noise when the turntable is stationary. Mine is quiet then too. The test is to crank the volume on your nova300, and with nothing playing, just give the platter a good spin. You'll likely hear something. Then you'll hear the noise when set to 33 or 45 rpm, at different pitches. This is problematic on my turntable, but less apparent on some. As said, people shouldn't have to worry about getting a "good one" or "bad one" from TEAC, since they're denying this issue is worth fixing.

For this price, i would go for a REGA RP1 + a Rega Fono Mini A2D combo.

I will say parts of this turntable are fantastic. Acrylic platters are far better than the plastic or stainless steel platters on a lot of cheaper turntables. The denser the material the less vibration, and that means cleaner sound. The cartridge isn't great, for the price I would think something a little better would be included. I would also strongly not recommend getting the version (for $200 more) that includes a built in preamp. You can get a very decent dedicated phono-preamp for ~$100 (Pro-Ject, Schiit, U-Turn) and an RCA to USB interface for ~$20-$50 if you are dead set on recording records on onto a PC. Having dedicated components means you can upgrade far easier in the future, if you desire, but it also saves you money up front. Win win.

The cartridge included is a sub $100 entry level moving-magnet type; It's nothing special; you will want to upgrade it!! The phono cartridge is critical: it is what actually produces the electrical current; the rest of turntable should get out of the way. Parasound makes a dandy phono pre-amp w/USB, available from Audio Advisor for $249.; you'll also be able to return it if it doesn't meet your needs. If you want to dip your toes in vinyl without an outrageous expenditure, consider U-Turn Audio first.!

Could we get something more compact and elegant like the Sony Flamingo or the Audio Technica Hamburger but with modern hardware.

Well, i think those turn table are too bulky than some vertical one or damn small factor one (used in the style of damn small linux because it was really damn small at less than 20mb when installed).

Both of those turntables (if you can even call them that) are ugly as mess. If you want something elegant, tryout the turntable that's on this drop.

For people complaining about the price, this turntable is amazing! Just checkout the last line of the description;"The TN-570 model adds a built-in phono preamp and analog-to-digital converter, allowing you to easily convert your archive to vinyl". It writes to vinyl!

Sarcasm accepted. Makes me wonder though, how many people read this add and then went on-line searching for blank vinyl discs ... move over Abbey Road.
