When these dropped I wondered if I should cancel my HE 5xx order. But the reviews and comments seem kind of lukewarm, with it needing mods to sound better (or good), and the 5 star review sounding more like a 3 star one...
It seems you're better off getting the Hifiman Sundara for $350, or the Drop HE 5xx for $220.

RobsonIf only you knew my man, ive spent more money in this hobby than I would like to admit. And yes I had to mod mine as well but these headphones are pretty much as good and sometimes i prefer them over my $1200+ Pair of headphones. Had i found out about these sooner i probably would have saved money lol
Yo I already got em on the 2nd of dec. Really great headphones. I know the dt177x is closed back but the sundaras really hit those outta the park man. Really good. I feel like a real upgrade to the sundaras would probably be a focal elex/clear or some zmf. Looking at the koss esp. or audio technica r70x rn though.
tristan_castroElex is most definitely an upgrade, in my opinion, over the Sundara, and quite a bit over the Phantom...

DUAL 2.5MM TO 4-PIN BALANCED CABLE OPTION +$65?
My Phantom didn't come from Drop, but it has the same cable and adapters pictured and that includes the 2.5mm TRRS to 4.4mm TRRRS "pentacon" adapter which you see. So unless I'm missing something, that $65 option is for folks who don't want to use the supplied balanced 4.4mm option and like the idea of paying $65 for a cable with no material details or picture.
