That literally didn't explain anything. I've tried one of these before and I remember liking what I heard. What exactly are you talking about ?

Expand on that? I've been using a D30 for the better part of a year and it's been working great for me. Now, it's the first hardware dac I've ever used so I don't have much to compare it to but to say it's bad..?

I got an email today asking to share about my D30 and A30 that I bought from massdrop 2 years ago. Unfortunately the A30 has completely died a few months back. Sadly I can't recommend it due to this.

The current price on amazon is $109. Sometimes amazon does drop the price.

Also Drop started charging tax. So 10$ from amazon for faster shipping (prime) and better return policies...

I just bought one on amazon since I want to see how it performs. Cost me $110. It was worth the extra five bucks to have the better return policy. Drop return policies are not real user friendly IMO.

Was $90 on Amazon a couple weeks ago. Direct from Amazon. I was hoping Drop would have it cheaper.

I got these somewhere else but I'm dropping a link to a very high-quality Acrylic shelf for this set here (it's not cheap, but it's really good build quality and packaging): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/TOPPING-Amplifiers-Shelf-A30-D30-VX3-Headphone-AMP-Decoder-Digital-Amplifier-Recommend-Combination-Set-Acrylic-Shelfs/32811541379.html

I just picked up a Topping A30. I’ll be running it with a pre-amp (ES100). Does anyone know the power input range for the A30?

It depends on where you live. You make the choice based on the voltage you get from your wall socket. The vast majority of countries have residential voltages between 220V and 240V, so you would choose the 220V version. However, sone countries do have 110V to 130V. So beware of which residential voltage your country has!

Click join drop then select model option to look at prices. You can do this on any massdrop product, you can always go back it will not charge you unless your actually go and check out. In usd, a30 is $90, d30 is $105, both are $190. pa3 is $90 and all three are $265. Those are your options either in 110v or 220v. I have both the a30 and d30 and it is pretty amazing for under 200. I would like to check out their newer dx3 pro tho which has a different dual dacs in it and they fixed the high output impedance.ect

Okay folks, I've had the A30/D30 combo for a couple of months now. I put in the Burson V5i Opamp upgrade. I highly recommend if you're looking for an improvement but not wanting to buy a new amp. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. The A30 has a 3 position power switch; off, low, and "hi". I know from the owner's manual that it selects between low and high operating voltage. My question is when would it actually make sense to use one over the other. I've used this amp with HD58x Jubilees, HD6xx's, 32 ohm M&O's (32 ohm), some low impedance Betron IEM's. For the life of me, I can't tell a difference in sound quality or quantity between the 2 settings. The volume level doesn't change as it does when switching between gain stages. I'd like to understand why this option is even offered if it doesn't functionally seem to do anything. Thanks!

Higher gains can be used with higher impedance headphones, like Sennheiser HD6XX which has 300 Ohms impedance. Those are harder to drive, since they require higher output voltage, hence the higher gain is needed. AKG K7XX headphone, for example, has 62 Ohms. You can experiment to see if it matters in your case.

Roger that, but I’m not referring to the gain control. This is a low/high voltage operation switch separate from the gain control. The gain works as advertised. The low/high voltage switch doesn’t seem to affect anything at all regardless of the headphones plugged into the amp. It’s very odd.
