Weird issue with this. I have it connected to a Mac Pro via USB, and powering a pair of JBL Control 1 monitors. Works perfectly. If I leave the Mac playing music non-stop, the MX3 never hiccups. I just finished playing 72 hours of music, continuously.
But if the music (or whatever audio signal) stops, after some amount of time (more than a few minutes, less than a day), the MX3 stops producing audio, whether on the speakers or headphone jack. It remains responsive (I can switch inputs, change the volume, turn it off and on, etc), it shows up as a USB device, etc., but nothing comes out. If I disconnect the AC adapter for a few seconds and plug it back in, the MX3 comes back working perfectly again.
It's not going to sleep (at least, the display never indicates that), it just stops driving the speakers or headphones. I don't think it's electrical, because it only exhibits this behavior when it's not getting a USB input signal for some time; when it's playing, it never fails.
Help?
harshmanWere you ever able to figure it out? ... I have the same exact issue. Its connected this with Nvidia Shield TV (Android Streaming box, the 2016 one with USB) and pair of floor standing speakers. As long as the stream is playing, and the Shield TV doesn't go to sleep, it works flawlessly. I can switch between YouTube, chrome casting, online radio, Netflix, etc. no issues. But as soon as the Shield goes to sleep /restarts, and I have to power cycle the MX3 as well.
Edit: I noticed as long the MX3 detects the stream as 96khz over USB it is happy, as soon as it detects 48khz its silent.
Also turning on other inductive loads like fans, blenders, etc. in the house cuts the audio momentarily (but I guess this is more to do with the house wiring) added ferrite beads to cables but no use.
ScielientaUnless you're using the internal crossover to pull out the low frequencies for a sub, it seems like it would be easier to plug your powered speakers directly into your source. If you just need a DAC you're better off with a purpose-built DAC. But if you already have the MX3 and intend to use it with powered speakers you could use the headphone jack as a pre-out. Set the amp to "dB volume mode" and the volume to 0.0 dB, run a 3.5mm to RCA cable from the headphone out to your powered speakers and voila. If you need to have the subwoofer out as well you could get some banana plug to RCA cables and run those to the speakers. In that configuration 0.0 dB is probably too much to push to another amp. I would just find the lowest volume level that works and leave it there. In either configuration I would avoid using the volume control on the MX3 because you run the risk of blowing out the speakers or frying their circuit board(s) if the volume gets too high.
I got one of these and it died suddenly just. it was replaced as i got it on ebay that wasn't to bad, the new unit came with aaa battery remote control that solved the remote problem most people had as the watch battery moves in the other one. the Unit is in my lounge roomwith a set of speakers and a sub , its incredible for its price. used this unit 5 months with Optical in and the remote. Probably a good plug it in and dont touch it unit . Oh and your subwoofer must have a filter to cut high frequency as it sends full signal . I love mt mx3 want to get another as they are awesome little stereo amplifiers. new unit is flawless btw
I'd like to give a feedback since I found this product from drop.com (was massdrop.com at that time). Bought from amazon.ca back in Mar 2018. The remote control was dropped on the floor a few times and final broke a few weeks ago. Emailed the manufacturer (service@tpdz.net). They agreed to give me 2 new ones for free and asked USD $20 for shipping (from China to Canada). I paid them by paypal. A week later, DHL delivered them to my home. The new ones are much better then the old one. Old one has model# RC-13, use 2032 battery and felt very cheap. New one has model# RC-13A and use 2 AAA batteries. I have used both for a few days without any issues.
JohnLee28570Nice to see they replaced the remote. Mine stopped working after 3 months light use. The speaker output stopped 2 months later. Now it it turns on only half the time. Stepping up to better equipment anyways but it would have been nice to use somewhere else for casual use.
What's the continuous output for the stereo amp on this? I can't find any information on the continuous output, I assume the 40W rating is peak output. Looking for something aesthetic that can drive Qacoustic 3020is
