And in systems that already have a discrete headphone amp (like Topping’s conveniently stackable A30), the MX3 can function as a DAC or preamplifier. It outputs an impressive 247 mW of power at 32 ohms in the headphone amp section—a 190 percent improvement over its predecessor, the VX3, and enough to power demanding headphones like the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX. Connect the MX3 to your bookshelf speakers with banana plugs or a speaker wire, and it’ll deliver 38 W per channel at 8 ohms. Featuring a digital display with adjustable brightness, this unit can also be connected to Bluetooth using NFC.
