Am thinking of getting one for desktop purpose. Will this amp be able to drive the HD6xx/650? The specs indicate that it works with headphone input impedence between 16-300 ohms.

CharlesYIt would not be enough. HD6xx will sound good but there are spikes in some frequency where it goes up to 600 ohm. You are better with a schiit magni 3 or magni 2 uber (79.99$) on amazon when it goes on sale.

CharlesYYes. The HD6xx is very easy to drive, even though it is 300 ohms., and even though it has spikes at 600 ohms for certain low frequencies. It is a myth that the HD6xx needs a lot of power.
Check out this calculator. http://www.digizoid.com/headphones-power.html By the way the HD6xx is rated at 300 ohms, with a SPL of 101db/1V. In those conditions, only a few mw is needed, less than 10mw for normal listening will be enough. I’m pretty sure that this unit may produce at least 10 mw @ 300 ohms.

CharlesYI have the NX1s, exact same amp without the DAC and I use it with the HD600 and the HD6xx. In both cases it provides enough power to harm your ears and your headphones...

tessierpgI am looking for a lightweight mobile solution so the NX2s may fit the bill. Would like to hear from a NX2s owner for its DAC quality and the amp experience with the HD650.6xx .

CharlesYThe only part i cannot confirm is the quality of the DAC part. But you may also use it as an amp only. Moreover the price is fair. If you want the Ferrari of the portable DAC/amps for your HD6xx you may choose the Audioquest Dragonfly Red, but its 3x-4x the Price! But I strongly recommend the Red, I use it all the time with my iPhone, iPad (with Apple CCK ubs3.0 connector) and with the ,Macbook pro. I even use the Red in DAC only mode with my Massdrop O2 amp. I use the NX1s at the office with my second pair of Senns... At 35$ the NX1S from Massdrop was a deal! At 65$ the NX2S with DAC looks like a deal too...

tessierpgThanks for this information. I was looking for something to power my HD6XX with the phone. Sometimes I need to plug the HD6XX to the phone (LD MKII and FX AUDIO DAC-X6). For some unknown reason my REDMI 5 doesn't work with FX AUDIO DAC-X6 and when i directly connect Redmi note 5 to LD MKII it cannot provide enough loudness for the amp to do the amplification. So Redmi Note 5 is complete shit when it comes to headphone jack and its power. Most likely this might work, im' thinking of getting the one with dac just to make sure that shit audio out will not effect the portable amp as well.
