I really want this but will have to wait for a while. Got 2800 coming via government bribe and need to be sure my wife's retirement checks are coming in first. I'll likely have to wait for the next sale.

FISTDEYUMAHead over to the Violectric website and look around see how you feel afterwards. There are so many opinions and reallly just boils down to taking a chance and pulling the trigger. You may or may not like the way it sounds but I can tell you the quality is there.
I’m beginning to see Drop has more trolls trolling harder and harder.
Especially On items like this.

OfframpI have not noted the trolls but there are a lot of ignorant people expressing an opinion as fact. I find them easy to ignore. Then again, I mostly use the political boards where there are professional trolls working to create myths.

Will this power the 800S nicely? Currently rocking LCD-X with ADI-2 DAC but will only get this if I’m futureproofed for my next headphone purchases.

A90 is 7 watts at 32 if I recall correctly and the V550 is 6.4 at 50 ohms. Not too much difference almost identical at 50 I believe.

Correction this one is about 30% more powerful at most ohm loads than the Topping.

Actually the oppostie, Violectric themselves say in their manual the pre gain is for matching the volume with various headphones.

HirakYou can look at it from either side but you're achieving the same thing. Since some headphones are more efficient than others and some DAC's have a higher output, you're trying to adjust the volume control so that you have sufficient gain and yet not too much gain. The goal is to have the volume control roughly around 12:00 when listening at a comfortable level.
