BestPlayerNKWell my ears hurt when i try to use those popular in-ear style earbuds. These are "traditional" buds are only ones i can use.
Anyways how well would these compare to my Sunrise SW Dragon II's?

BestPlayerNKWhy? The Yuin housings are the most comfortable ones and the PK1 sound great.

Well, I got the PK1, and it sounds about the same or slightly thinner than the PK2. It's less efficient that the PK2. With my equalizer boosting the bass about 7 db at 40 hz to 10 db at 60 and 70 hz, a 30 hz tone is inaudible by either tone or weight. 40 hz is very faint (with the bass boost), and either the PK2 is better there or the increased sensitivity makes it seem so. Running a series of test tones or sweeps (both), the response of the PK1 and PK2 seem extremely similar up to beyond 10 khz. I wonder if anyone is able to test these 'buds' on technical gear?
Edit: Quite a bit brighter than the PK2, along with being less efficient. These are my EQ curves for the PK1 and PK2, to get a sound comparable to the Philips X2, but with little to no output in the lowest octave (~27.5 - 55 hz):

By all means PM me as link. thanks You would have to define 'pure' but the whole point of quality DACS is how they present audio in the most 'qualified' way possible given all the various parametres. Again with the greatest respect...I use my ears to listen. They whole point [for me] of quality is to enjoy relaxing 'into' the music and for that I find the less interference between the recording and the drivers on my ears the better or me the more prefered TBH though I dont care how or why the signal is not as 'pure' as the source...Otherwise Tube amps would be an issue for me!! I just enjoy the various flavours that different DAC's give to the music. Ive reached a stage of realism and [relative] purity with my headphones / system that blows my mind on a daily basis. That's enough for me. Maybe whats more difficult in general is finding superbly recorded/mastered music these days. Once you've enjoyed some Verve Jazz recordings from 50's-60's its hard to get excited for 'modern' stuff Interesting stuff though :)

lexsI managed to get an album of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker from '53 in mono - good mono I think. I also got a live reunion album from '74 I think it was - that's a good listen. Got a few tracks by Gigi Gryce, George Kahn, Clark Terry, Bill Evans Trio.... too much to name. The companies who are doing quality remasters of the classic albums need to be commended and supported. We're living in a good time for this music.

vampier206Yeah, having worn solid plastic ear buds before they look super uncomfortable. I'd give it a pass because it hurts my ears and can't fit properly. Solid plastic ear buds suck.

For a $140 earbud you would expect something that looks like it can withstand some rough handling.

They all use the same basic shell, so this is a misnomer

The 150 Ohm resistance is not bad. Actually, I found it helpful on devices that hiss at low volumes. It will take more power than most normal earbuds and does benefit from amping BUT it still sounds terrific without an amp.
The second we can get a decent answer on the warranty situation, I'll be all over these headphones. I know the Yuin PK2s have been on Massdrop before. Maybe someone who participated on those drops may have an answer for us?

utdeepWell this is what I found with some cursory Google searches: http://www.headphone.com/products/yuin-pk1
"The YUIN 1-year product warranty is serviced exclusively through the manufacturer's Head-Direct/USA offices [customerservice@head-direct.com] located in New York"
http://www.head-fi.org/t/404117/warranty-for-yuin-pk1 "Actually, I just called them and they said that even if it is out of the warranty period, I can send it to them and they will fix it for a price."
Looking at head-direct.com, looks like they state it as "30 day return, 1 year replacement".
Seems too expensive for a 1 year warranty to me. It seems like earbuds just break too easily for spending this much. I don't know what the "price" that guy has to pay in that topic is, either.

I've owned Yuin PK1s before and I think they're amazing. Before I heard them, my assumption was that earbuds were junk and that you needed to go with IEMs to get decent sound outside of a full-sized can.
This earbud was a true revelation. I have only one concern with them. They are as durable as they look... which is to say that they are not durable at all. The only other headphone I adore that has the same issue is the Koss KSC35/50. However, the price of those headphones is often around $15 and Koss has a lifetime warranty.
I don't know if anything has changed, but I was heartbroken after my Yuin PK1s broke after a year of use despite being in the carrying case. I moved on to the Blox earbuds and the Sennheiser MX980 but I'm not sure anything came close to the Yuin PK1 sound. However, it's really hard to drop $200 bucks on this again.
At $119, I'd give it a try. Anyone know if Yuin has improved on their build quality or warranty? It looks like nothing has changed on their website since the last time I checked in 2009 :) http://www.yuin-acoustic.com/warranty/

No idea who to contact back in '09 although I bought it from headphone.com. Looking around on the web, it looks like most people talk to whoever they bought it from rather than Yuin.

Acidtrip69They may look unassuming, but they're pretty great. A friend has a pair, I was about ready to pay full retail for them. I also had a PK3 from here on MD, but I may as well upgrade. I'm very happy it's dropped again.

I don't think they are fakes. Yuin is this jankie DIY brand from China, I know because I am from China. I have had them, they are impressive for the 7 bucks, but $100... Just look at how they are built.

cong314159No there are fakes, but thats because Yuin was just the originator of a really common style(tho unlikely given that this is massdrop). They might be a diy brand w a janky build but thats just the nature of Yuin's design and unchanging philosphy. They've been doing this for like about 20+ years now i believe. Yuin knos what they are doing because the classic earbud styling is just their demographic
