The story of damascus steel dates back more than 2,000 years. Believed to have originated in India, it’s made by folding many layers of steel together in a unique pattern. Today, it’s characterized by distinct banding patterns resembling flowing water and has become known for its strength, edge retention, and aesthetic appeal. This series of kitchen knives is crafted from 67-layers of VG-10 damascus, a high-quality blade steel imported from Japan. Because each layer wears at a different rate, it causes a micro serration that’s sharp and long-lasting. Plus, as any chef knows, you need a solid hold in a slippery and hot kitchen, which is why these knives feature black Pakkawood handles. The base price is for the 8-inch gyuto, but feel free to upgrade to something larger or grab the 5-inch santoku for a discount.
