The Stinger Plus USB Emergency Escape Tool is a one-of-a-kind rescue tool that you’ll never lose track of. Outfitted with two 3.1-amp USB ports, it plugs right into your car’s cigarette port—but charging is not even scraping the surface of the Stinger’s functions Read More
This is such an utterly mad idea it's almost a special kind of genius. I want to know what the inventor was smoking when he decided these were two functions crying out to be combined.
The spring-loaded glass-breaker plunger is also the base power contact for the USB charger ... what could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Heh. No, I am well aware there's no glass in an automotive 12V socket. But aside from the sheer mad-science idea of combining these functions in a single device in the first place, I've often had difficulty getting accessories to make good contact in a 12V socket. I don't know how much force it takes to trigger the glassbreaker action — @Cabezon mentioned 23lb — but I imagine if one *did* manage to trigger this thing in the socket, it wouldn't be good for the socket, and that could be expensive to repair.
UnixRoninI triggered it in my old car's 12V socket one time because I was being an idiot and there were no negative side effects. I can't tell you what would happen if this occurred multiple times though.
Who else will be getting one of these for increased efficiency of their anti-social leisure activities? Ah, I can almost hear it now... the sound of glass shattering, hitting the ground behind me as I race gleefully down a street of parked cars, high on the thrill of committing utterly senseless acts of property damage...
OwiiNot really, the razor is contained in a piece of plastic like what can be found in an envelope cutter. That and the plastic guard makes the seat belt cutter face the cigarette lighter. Unless your car looks like a spider's web of cables and then some that won't be a problem.
This drop is a bit frustrating. 2 weeks ago purchased 2 of the Ztylus Kotechs, with 2.4A Usb ports.
Now you bring this one out with 3.1A Usb ports, for the same price too!
Why don't they just offer one product? What will the 3.1A Usb do that the 2.4A can't? They support fast charging?
Thanks
James008Just by looking at it I would say no. Also even if it does trigger it'll only slightly dent whatever it hits in there. those glass breakers are pretty harmless to everything except glass.
