Previous AKG offerings on Massdrop like the open-back K7XX and the closed-back K553 share a lot of great traits: both boast an expansive soundstage, bassy goodness, and a killer price-to-performance value. However, the large size of the headphones and their long stock cable make them unusable on the go Read More
I wish massdrop would stop trying to sell us junk like this and instead focus of providing better support and shipping on products people actually want.
CamoGekoWhy are you calling them junk? Some people can't afford several mid-fi cans that cost hundreds of dollars, or ToTL cans costing thousands. Massdrop is keeping up the good variety, that's important in price variety, and so far over 100 people have purchased these.
CamoGekoThey sell a full range of products.
For years I have used AKG-240 Studio headphones (I am on my third pair) when listing to vinyl in the 1980's and later when I began to edit sound for my videos . This AKG K181 fills a niche that is missing in my headphone collection. They are certainly much better than most earbuds and some of those cost in excess of $40.
Just a side note: When I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S8+, it came with some rather robust AKG earbuds, the best earbuds I have received when I purchased a new mobile phone
would anyone recommend these for video editing? I'm on a bit of a budget and the $40 price from a brand like AKG seems very enticing. I don't know what kind of sound stage "Disk Jockey" headphones have to offer, I just need something flat and crisp.
Please don't tell people you need an amp for this when the rated impedance is 42 omhs, especially when the sensitivty id 112 db. Unless a headphone is 80 omhs or above, though this is subjective as well, most headphones can be driven easily on the go no issues or problem. The only potential issue would be if the source quality is crap, eg less than CD quality.
I will add I don't have this particular headphone as I have more than enough good headphones for now so I can't comment on how it sounds but AKG rarely swing misses.
Potential Good Value as echoed.
I feel like the MSRP listed here is deceptive. I checked a few sites and even AKG is only listing the price of these as $84 on Amazon, not $249, so it's really not as much of a discount as this drop is purporting. Maybe at some point is was $249 but it certainly isn't now.
studioplutoWas an error in the time, it said it was supposed to last until 16:00 (8:00 PM) yesterday but ended at 08:00 (8:00 AM) instead, I was weirded out when I got an order confirmation at 8 in the morning...
Maybe contact support?

My opinion about these - listening to them right now. Its a steal for this price but you need to know strong and week sides of those.
Strong sides: very good sound quality in all frequency response, properly defined soundstage - not to wide not to deep, great isolation, possibility of bumping bass by mechanical switches on drivers, quality 50mm drivers, they will play loud straight from phone, you can use this phones on street or even bicycle.
Week sides: big pressure on ears because strong clamp which hold those phones on your ears (thats why you can use those on bicycle).
In total I was able to forget about clamping after half of hour listening because Im a Viking and yes bass boost work. This is steal for 40$$$ ... my subjective opinion.
I guessed @YanDoroshenko meant the FR curve when he said "frequency response", otherwise it'll be silly to compare two headphones just by watching at the specs.
