No warranty on a 500 dollar headphone means I'm out.

blahblahblahblahblahblahmaybe they think $500 is nothing nowadays, I think they need to rethink things, a $500 headphones must have a warranty of at least 5 years. I remember my denon ah-d5000 had a 5 years warranty, paid $799. It lasted me more than 10 years without a problem. The best protest we can do is --> do not buy it.
(Edited)
MetroidIf you are in the US that wasn't a manufacturers warranty. Denon US offers a 1 year warranty on all AH line headphones. Actually I don't know of any headphone manufacturer that goes beyond 3 years so this 5 year thing has little to no precedent. My Emotiva amps came with 5 year warranties, Bryston does 20. Beyond that 3 is pretty standard for upmarket gear with 1 being the norm for most audio devices of decent build. Sources: Old posting on B&H, Crutchfield and Denon's own Warranty page.
Having BOTH versions of the T1 Tesla, I sort of feel like this variant steps away from the core style of the T1; the somewhat clinical presentation of the SS and the excellent clarity derived from the higher impedance drivers. If the shift of the SS is toward a warmer and more coloured sound, it doesn't feel like it's true to the T1. You won't know what a "real" T1 sounds like with these. If I want warmer, I use a tube amp, instead of a solid state amp.
I am sure that this is a headphone that will appeal to many. It can be driven by portable rigs... And good for that. I absolutely believe that the build quality is very high value, as one would expect from such a collaboration.
I just feel like, if one is looking for the T1 Tesla SS, buying something that has been tweaked away from that isn't the way to go. You won't completely drive a high imps T1 with most portable rigs, certainly will require a good portable amp.... and that's okay, as the T1 really deserves a sit down and attentive listen, instead of jammed in on the bus or the underground.
It's never a bad idea to see if you can find a pure T1,(either version), on The 'Bay. Can often snap up a set for less than 700 bux. And don't be too obsessed by V2 over the V1; the SS is not significantly different, it's really mostly about cable removal vs fixed cable. Personally, I don't remove cables much; less wear and tear on the connectors.

TiffanyPoodleslideT1 Gen 2 does have a significantly different tonality, it is warmer than the Gen 1. Still a bit bass light but definitely not as thin as the Gen 1.
I owned all 3 versions. T1 Gen 2is by far my favorite. The A&K has a thicker coil, hence the lower impedance, which I believe makes it less brilliant in the higher registers as its driver is not as responsive. Not a huge difference but noticable.

gb21011971Exactly my assessment and the explanation for the difference is spot on. I owned the T1.2 and the T1p. Noticable difference, but perhaps only when direct A/B. T1p is less amp-picky obviously. Driving the T1.2 with a crappy amp or an amp that is just not compatible (SS that is too bright) is a challenge and the result is poor. After some experimenting, my nest results were 2 nuforce ha200 monoblocks (1 amp per channel). Then the T1.2 was absolutely brilliant. If you don't want to go to those lengths (and expenses), the T1p with an average amp will get you to 90% of the T1.2 at a fraction of the cost. Not the same thing, but certainly a good deal.

I didn't know there was so much distinction in the t1 gen 1 alone, holy moly. Dunno what serial I listened to either. I did like it though! Amiron is just like a perfectly refined t90. No excessive brightness at all it's treble is perfect for my ears. Thanks for your comment though if I can pick up a late serial t1 I might, I'd just mod it to be detachable balanced. I already have enough headphones so what to sell....

I agree, get an original. I went from B&O's to Bowers & Wilkins P7's to Hifiman 4xx's to AKG Q701's and now finally I have a T1 first gen SN3607. There's a few tracks I have with hard to listen to high sibilance but I'm sure that's down to their low resolution recordings. Frankly, there's no going back, the original T1's make music such a joy to listen to. Even walking around with my Chord Mojo setup, I have a huge smile on my face as I hear things with such clarity.

How do these stack up compared to the Beyerdynamic 1990s?

Billy-BobbyThese are technically semi-open, but sound more closed than open. Soundstage is a bit narrower than on DT1990. Also, AK T1p is easier to drive and significantly brighter. Soundsignature has a more pronounced V-shape than the DT1990. If you find DT1990 boring, you may enjoy the livelier AK T1p. However, if you are sensitive to sibilance and have a decent amp, DT1990 is hard to beat at around $500.

600 Ohms or none in my book!

Seems to me these are rated at 32Ohms, the output impedance of the DV is at the least 50Ohms. Not a good ratio and they won’t sound good. On the hybrid tube amps I have these headphones will work, but I would want to use these on my DV.
NateBYou were referencing the 600 ohm T1, I was just bringing up the T1's power needs to hit 120 or so db. Also pointing out that the rating at 32 ohms power spec may not definitively tell you how well it will drive the T1. It's fairly sensitive but the impedance curve spikes around 1000 ohms so sufficient voltage may not be delivered by some amps.

If only it were the T1.2, but it's still a decent deal.
Hi AstellnKern, Would you be able to upload frequency response and distortion graphs for this headphone? Thanks!

That would be the T5p. If I am not mistaken, it dropped a few years ago, briefly.

Really? No warranty? i was about to buy but this puts me off
bostonnylaIf not explicitly mentioned, Drop only offers a 30 day return warranty if the item is broken/damaged/not as specified on the website. I emailed A&K Australia if their warranty policy would cover this purchase. They replied "Unfortunately no they would not be covered, they are not an Authorised Australian reseller of ours." So past the 30 days, you are on your own if something goes wrong.

The best of the best (even more than focal), have no other words to describe it. Even the highs are very sharp and smooth and still tolerable
elitw14More 'what' than Focal? Did you directly compare the T1p to a Focal headphone? If so, which headphone?
