Folks this is a good deal, it normally sells for much more, I got one at buydig for $120. Very nice, open, airy, transparent, organic sound. Jump on it!!
Yes everytime I get a package at work, they are like "another pair of headphones or a headphone amp?"... but it is just so exciting listening to a new pair and rotating them. I promised myself I am done for 2019... we'll see if I can keep to that... I did just get the loxjie p20 tube amp with balanced connections, $100 from amazon..
ukmichaeldavidI just read, you have a great collection of amp and headphones. I am in a decision to buy a new headphone for gaming only. Already ordered the p20, and after many many readings got 2 winners. Hd4xx vs Akg 712pro. I already tried the Hd4xx with p20 and was amaizing(only balanced with dac)
Have you ever paired your Akg 712 with the p20. What do you thin is it better then the 4xx plannar. I am afraid there is not enough power for unbalanced mode, to heare those hiden bass for this hard to drive headphone.
My main goal is wide rumbling soundstage pairnig with a precision.
I picked up the AD900X today for 119.95 total 2 day shipped from the big A site. That's only $12.71 more and I get them 03/15/2019. Massdrop has these shipped out on Apr 8, 2019 PT. Over 3 weeks... $13ish bucks is totally worth not waiting lol
I currently own 6XX, K7XX, Koss KSC75X, and Superlux HD668B all powered by the modest Schiit stack. If Anyone is interested I can give my subjective opinion when they arrive. I do a mix of music and gaming.
Thanks for so much information! They sound great if I can get over the non-detachable cable thing... That, and I'm not sure between these at the 1000X... but it sounds like you're very happy with them!
zep483No problem! I've not heard the 1000X but I bet it's great. Out of my headphones the Audio-Technica are definitely my current favorite sound signature. It's nice having options for types of music and different days/moods.
When i compare the koss 950 electrostatic to the audeze lcd x, i will say that the 950 is a little cleaner, but the lcdx has more bass and a more powerful sound. I prefer the lcdx for that, as I like some bass. Have not listened to the 2000, but I am quite sure the 5000 must be better. For now my overall favorite type is the planar magnetic. I really want to try the stax, and the meze electrostatic since they are newer designs than the koss.
I was waiting for Massdrop to pick these up forever and eventually I just bought some off eBay. These were my favorite work cans until I got the HD 6XX's. As others have noted they are super open and airy. I found the wing design to be very comfortable, especially if the top of your head is sensitive.
A worthy edition to any collection or a great way to experience open headphones. More balanced and neutral than Grado at this price point.
If you have the money to spare get both. They are not equivalent, but they are both excellent. I have both and love them both. Obviously the cable is not removable, which sucks... but for $100 who cares..
Sorry for the late response but I would agree with @MidFiGuy for the most part. I put the AD900x's on sometimes for live albums or just to change it up but the sound of the 6xx's is just a lot more rich across the spectrum and better for general purpose.
General buying tips for headphones- as I have a lot of headphones from different places, here is my take on how to save money on such purchases. Massdrop- good for collaborations- hd6xx hd6xx akg7xx koss esp95x, these are the best value because they mimic or improve on existing models for generally half or less of the MSRP. Then you also get things like special sales where massdrop pricing is lower than Amazon for example, but you have to wait.
Sweetwater, zz sounds, crutchfield, headphones.com, audio46, hifi heaven, Amazon warehouse deals, adorama, thomann USA,: all these places to bstock, open box or used.
Generally the open box or bstock carry the full warranty, while the used carry 6 month, however Amazon warehouse is just 30 day. I have saved 10-30% off doing this.
Also the music type stores and headphones.com have credit offers often at zero percent for up to 48 months.
The best deal I found was adorama through Amazon, the he560v2 (adorama exclusive) for $200, including balanced xlr cable, excellent plus condition.
Hope this helps.
Have you ever used camelcamelcamel.com? It tracks the prices of everything sold by or through Amazon. You can get an email notification when the price of an item falls below a price that you set.
Hi, I am happy that I ordered the AD900x yesterday, because today they are SOLD OUT.
Question: are the AD900x sold by the Drop identical to the AD900x sold by Audio-Technica,
say, on Amazon?
Very bloody good deal for this headphone. I would definitely buy one if i already didn't own one. Sound is fantastic. I have also the W5000 which I prefere with amazing sweet highs but I have to say not that far off and 10 times the price. For the money GEEZ this is a marvelous deal.
wallawallaThe 900 is like a feather on your head, if it was wireless you would forget it was on your head. The soundstage is wider than the sennheiser. Bass is more pronounced as verifonix says.
