UPDATE: Drop customer service made me whole, paying for return service and sending a new working unit. So onto the review…
I purchased a Beosound 2 in Anthracite and Beosound Balance in Black Oak. Looking at the specs for each, one may choose the Balance for its additional drivers, amplification and overall heft (in addition to price). The Beosound 2 warrants the jump in price for its all-aluminum body and additional clarity of sound over the Balance. Comparing the two, I’ve found the Balance to feel almost boxed-in at times, while the 2 is airy, whole, warm, with a clear signature from the acoustic lens up top. The 2 is suited across all major genres I listen to (EDM, House, Classic Jazz, Classic Rock, Indie, Orchestra) while the Balance performs best on base-centric pieces despite all my EQ adjustments in the app. The 2 possesses true 360 degree sound, and is surely worth a listen.
Airplay 2 connects seamlessly with Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music. The controls on top are similar to the Balance, with the top ring replacing the touch volume adjustment (just turn to adjust). Connectivity is far more stable than previous generations of B&O products (A1, S3, H9i).
In conclusion: listen to both if you can. The Balance may be more of a party speaker for your living room, while the 2 is for concentrated, true listening. Jump for the 2 if you can, it does not disappoint!
Original Review: An amazing piece of audio tech, although it arrived defective. The controls on top are non-functioning, although I can play through the B&O app and Airplay 2. I’ll update my review once Drop customer service reaches out to remedy the situation.
