Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Headphones

Just my thoughts on these headphones, as a verified purchaser on Amazon, some time ago. During my brief period with the Amiron Wireless, I found a few things that stuck out to me. First and foremost, the sound is absolutely the best I have heard in a Bluetooth set of headphones, with one glaring exception, volume. The quality of the sound was tremendous, the bass was nicely present, mids and highs were very clean, but the quantity of the sound was severely lacking. Having owned several different types of Bluetooth headphones, including but not limited to, the Sony WH1000XM3 (my current all around favorite), the Master and Dynamic MW65 (very good sounding, terrible mic for making calls), V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex (a good all around contender, but again the mic not so good), as well as several others. Most of them have, for my preferences, inadequate volume when used wirelessly. However, the Amiron took this to a whole other level. The ear pads, while extremely soft and comfortable, are rather thick, like all the standard Beyer pads tend to be. I found myself, with all equipment cranked to max, almost straining to try and hear the details of the music. They sounded so good, I wanted to take in all of the nuances of the sound they were producing, but was simply unable to. Even when connected using the included 3.5mm cable, no matter what the source, they then went in sort of the opposite direction, and became very distorted rather quickly, including when running straight off of my Fiio X7MKII. One thing I found that actually did help, as I was trying to figure a way around my dilemma, I found that if I pressed on both ear cups, so as to push the speakers closer to my ears, while at the same time covering the air vents on the backside of the ear cups, it did indeed help the issue. I know, right, who'd have thought that? It also made the bass even more pronounced, for the better, as even though they are closed back, it is not fully closed, air gets around the silver ring in the middle of each ear cup, enough in fact that the simple act of cupping your hands over each cup made a noticeable difference in the bass response of these headphones. So, the bottom line for me, I returned them. If volume is not a big issue for you, then these headphones have the best sound quality of any wireless headphones that I have owned. I, however, enjoy my music to be more on the loud side, and as such these headphones simply were too low in the volume department for my tastes, by quite a bit. They only left me yearning for more of the wonderful sound that I was getting from them. You might want to read up on some of the Amazon reviews, one of which is mine as well, as there are others with the exact same issue. I truly wish there was some way to resolve this, because the sound they did produce really was that nice, in fact with more volume I would have found these to be the perfect wireless headphone, for music at least, I did not test the mic.

Just to add some discussion here, I like these headphones once modified. In stock form, the treble is a bit much and the fit is a bit odd. Some reviewers have attributed the fit issue to reduced clamp in the headband, but having taken apart the headphone and replacing the headband with a clampier component from another beyer, I found the fit issue is due to the pivot on the cups not having too much vertical movement inward (this results in larger heads having the cups not being perpendicular with the head/ears and the perception of weak clamp). Personally, I found these issues fairly easy to address. The treble and fit can be tamed with a padswap. The simplest fix I had was just swapping out the stock pads with eikon perforated sheepskin pads. The treble becomes tamer and the thickness of the pads gets you a good seal. The limitation of this mod is that it reduces bass a bit and has the headphone leak. In stock form, the headphone actually has amazing sound isolation. As such, I continued messing with the headphone to get that isolation back. From here, I swapped the eikon pads with mrspeakers alpha pads. This gets you the isolation back and maintains the fit, but massively increases the bass and makes it messy (it bled into other sounds). Applying dekoni attenuation rings to the alpha pads cleans up the messy bass, bu still retains the excessive bass quantity. To get the bass amount to more tolerable levels for myself, I sealed half of the bass vents with tape. Ultimately, the headphone became something that puts me in a little room of sound that follows me and has the beyerdynamic sound without the beyerdynamic pain.
