My experience with Burson Audio customer service is horrible. I will never buy a Burson Audio product again and as a result of this I can not recommend Burson Audio products.
Burson has a great line of products, I bought their tops headphone amp/preamp - conductor V2 directly from them. Shame that massdrop doesn't ship to Russia, haven't seen at least 1 drop that does for 1.5 years registered on this platform. =[
I currently own a few opp-amps from Burson and they sent me the base Play to evaluate so if you want to check out my thoughts out on that it's over here. https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/burson-audio-play.22702/reviews#review-21205 even in the stock form it is a great unit and the full one on here is even better.
Oops! Sorry, i have cv1. Yeah, they only offer the sabre. So, that makes it easy choice. Also, cv2 dac uses the newer xmos usb board, which is prob why u cant use the cv1 dac boards. Not sure what they charge for the xmos sabre, but i would think under 500 shipped to us
I see burson is selling xmos/sabre dacs on their website for sub 500 bucks i think.
they emailed me with a sale..it was tempting... email them and ask if they have any “deals” on dacs.
Glad they took my advice. I told Burson to join up with Massdrop almost 11 months ago. Asking for the play itself I own one and it’s the best sound board I have owned out of quite a few. The clarity across the frequency spectrum and spatial accuracy are on point (if you’re using their V6 OP amps.)
Not sure there would be place inside PLAY to add the SPDIF plugs and the wiring. However, PLAY's internal transport done with additional USB hub chip and it's own +5V power (to decouple the noise from the computer) & XMOS chip is pretty well made and all measurements done proved very low jitter. Not sure what an external transport will need to improve here .
raoultrifanI have OCD issue. Whenever I buy one unit, be it an amp or an amp/dac combo. I always find a way ( legally) to buy another unit with pretty much the same dimension. I keep the Class A Fun basic due to some Youtube reviews that claimed the Fun Basic have more juice than the FunV5 op-amp upgrade. Funny thing is the El Cheapo FX Audio DAC/ AMP 6 self installed with no issue. Same procedure as the Play which is 1. check, 2. check, 3. check,4. check,, 5. check. The Burson Play would give me a 2 failed checks. So, Right now I stay with the FX Audio 6 while watching video on my BenQ monitor. For stereo listenning , I turn to my big gun amp or amp/dac combos. Too bad.
This is a quite good unit if you are looking for compact all in one combo unit. Its a DAC/A pre amp/ Headphone amp and a clean mic input all in one small box. It sounds very good and has more than enough power to drive anything other than one with absurd power requirements (Looking at you HE6!)
I liked it when I had it as it saved me a lot of space as I have to use a mic amp with my modmic.
