Product Description
The CEntrance DACport HD takes everything you loved about the original DACport Classic and Massdrop-exclusive DACport Slim, and ramps up the power for running high-end headphones from a compact device. It pairs the highly regarded AKM4490 DAC with a Class-A headphone amp that brings 775 mW of output power—all without the use of an internal battery Read More

The most excellent device! Listen to it for couple of years and love it more and more. Tried to find something similar but still no match. I also use DACportable as, guess, portable:). Also amazing sound! I just wonder why not more people use it. Much talk about finicky Chord etc. Try to compare them side by side. I feel Centrance should be everywhere especially considering generous pricing! I wish they would find better designer, their Blue DAC is outright ugly.

I just ordered this from Drop and going to pair it up with my HD 58X Jubilee. I have two questions and wish you all can give me some advice.
  1. Is a driver still required for this device to function properly, if I'm using this on Windows 10 latest build (19041) ? Most of my audio files are in 24-bit FLAC.
  2. I read previous comments, which stated that "use low gain for IEMs; high gain for high-end cans." Since HD 58X is fairly easy to drive with 150 Ohms impedance, will there be any improvements in audio clarity/details when switched to high gain, other than being louder? Louder is not necessarily equal to higher quality audio right?
Thanks in advance.

Amen, brother! Ha-ha. I appreciate that. Yeah, I'm constantly lurking the comments to see if anyone needs help. I've been making computer music and using the Sony MDR-7506 since early 2002, but I only started learning about headphones as late as in early 2016. I've learned some stuff, so I always try to give people those helpful pointers to optimize their experience! :) Regarding the HD 58X, they are sensitive and very easy to drive for being 150 ohm, but the low gain of the DACport HD is really low gain to drive very sensitive and low impedance headphones and be able to use the volume knob's range. I gave away my HD 58X, so I can't test them, but I do have the HD 6XX and those max out the volume on low gain while sounding weak. Once I change it to high gain, they shine with plenty of volume range left. If you're close to the max volume on low gain, turn it down completely, put it on high gain, and slowly raise it to a comfortable level. Always turn it down all the way to prevent accidentally blowing your ear drums. It's common-sense, but it's easy to forget and can damage both your ears and your headphones.

raansire7Really appreciate your advice brother. I just started to get into the Hi-fi Headphones in 2018, and only gotten myself a proper AMP/DAC last month as I was going down the rabbit hole. Feel like that audiophile's stuff are more like an art than science, like burning in etc. Glad to have some firm guidance from an expert! :)

$130 for the DACport HD is quite a grab. The thing is tiny yet sounds big and clear like a proper desktop DAC/amp combo. I was impressed by it! Now, the DACport HD + Cerene dB Headphones bundle is on sale, and it's in my opinion a fantastic purchase. I bought it directly from the CEntrance website. At $199.99, it's the best audio deal I have ever purchased. The headphones are bassier than I like, but I trust that the two years it took to voice them weren't in vain, and they do translate my music perfectly. Other than that, the things sound really open and have in my opinion delicious mids and highs for being closed cans.
May be we should consider dropping them here, so more problem can get what you got...

It took over a year of what was actually very light use but I developed a problem with my DACport HD. Today, I was suddenly only getting audio out of the right channel. When I stripped the unit apart, I noticed that the headphone jack was wiggling slightly on the PCB. After resoldering the jack to the board, the device is now working like new again though. Hey, I'll always take a fix that's genuinely resolved with 10 minutes and an outlet to plug a soldering iron into. I just wanted to bring this up in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Great piece of advice. Thanks. Another preventative measure would be to mix some of that 2 part epoxy resin / hardener adhesive and apply a small amount over the back of the rectangular section of the jack in a couple of places and the pcb board. Its non conductive and will secure the jack so it doesn't "wiggle" or cause the solder points to succumb to the pressure of inserting / removal of the headphone jack. I mix the stuff up and apply it with a toothpick. In 20 minutes it's curried enough to reassemble.

holsenHeyyyyy great thought. If I get an opportunity to open mine again, I'll probably do just that and see how it works out. Thanks. FWIW, before the jack broke loose, it sounded fantastic. After the jack was fixed, it has continued to sound fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these again if I lost mine.

Is driver installation still required when using the new revision DACport HD on Windows 10? While I don't think the high frequencies of HD6XX are veiled, the midbass is definitely bloated. Is the DACport HD a good match for HD6XX? Would it improve the bloated and muddy midbass? Thanks in advance!

One more thing. Is the latest DACport HD still made in the USA? Thanks in advance!
pcgeekParts come from Asia, final assembly, testing and packaging happen in Chicago, USA.
Question for the gamers out there -- would you like to have the ability to connect a mic to the DACport HD to enable full communication, using headphones such as these:
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-pc37x-gaming-headset
The goal is to retain the HiFi sound quality, but also add the mic channel. Let me know your thoughts.

CEntranceSounds a great idea as long as the price is competitive as I have a product which costs more than the HD but is more powerful and also have USB powered one with a 3.5mm headphone out and a 3.5mm mic input which costs hell of a lot less. All depends on cost and ways maybe to keep the price lower while retaining quality.

@CEntranceAmong other products sold at MD, Centrance team is the only one that I can see are showing their presence and actively answer questions.
Really appreciate it!
Is there a plan to drop other products in the future?
I would be interested if you can make the mobile version of DacPort.
I know there is already one but that is expensive. I will be interested to see a new project to make mobile version of Dacport Slim(which then will not be slim anymore) that allows using a few rechargeable AA batteries to operate.

If Pico can bring down the $399 down that much, I am sure Centrance can do the same. :)
I love my XduooX10 DAP, which is also using AK4490 chip like Centrance Dacport.
Unfortunately it does not hold charge anymore. It charges full but as soon as I unplug it, it would show only 3 out of 4 bars. Then when I walk to office for about 20 minutes it would show only 1 bar in red colour.
This is what happens to all non-replaceable battery devices.
Money wasted.
The manufacturer only thinks about hiw to make money and will be happy if the battery powered devices no longer work, assuming the consumer will buy from them again.
But, sorry XDuoo, it doesnt work that way. I am not buying it again.
I would rather spend my hard earned money where it will last.
For my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 use case... it still works fine because I installed new battery but it does not mean I will be using it. right?
Because we do want to explore new things and eventually they will not be fast enough so it will be collecting dust.
But that gave me good impression enough that I am buying more Samsung products.
Same like how the manufacturers are getting rid of 3.5mm jacks and forcing people to buy BT IEM and Headphones which will last only few years.
My Audio Technica ANC7b using 2 x AAA batteries still rocks like new. The plastic frame is breaking apart but it still works.
I really hope the manufacturers will start thinking of their customers again. We will eventually buy more products but that should not be because the batteries died.
Sigh....

ridhuankimTill today, I wondered how playing time on my ipod touch reduced gradually, till it stopped working. I guess I got my answer. Thanks.
Guys, Michael Goodman here. Just got notice that this terrible mistake happened. I've worked with Massdrop for several weeks trying to prevent this from happening, and alas, it still did happen. I'm so very sorry about that. There clearly was a mix up at the Drop warehouse in New Jersey, because of COVID or whatever, I don't know. What's upsetting is that I emailed them 5 times asking to check this, because I suspected that there was an error (they didn't acknowledge the receipt their usual way). And now this. Very sorry. I have written to several levels of management at Drop. They need to get this fixed. It's not CEntrance fault, but that does nothing to lessen your inconvenience...

I'm not part of this drop but picked one of these up during a previous one. I just wanted to chime in to say that I'm VERY happy and impressed with my DACport HD after a couple of months of use. I use it to drive my Sennheiser 6XXs daily and they pair up wonderfully.

The HD6XX headphones are hard to drive. I keep it on the high gain setting.
