Comply memory foam eartips are very isolating which is what I was looking for. These fit a few of my earphones so I can use it for different headphones. I've used these eartips for years and really like them. The only issue I have is the durability. They will start to fail apart at some point and need to be replaced. But I haven't found a better alternative so I continue to pick them up.
I recently purchased a pair of Etymotic ER2XR earphones. I could never find a comfortable silicon tip, so I tried the included foam tips. The standard foam tips sounded pretty decent and offered incredible isolation, but at the cost of minor discomfort (even after a few weeks of trying). They weren't terribly hardy either, as they kept coming apart upon removal. Good thing I had tweezers to remove the foam from my right ear (which apparently has a crooked canal) on multiple occasions.
I contacted Etymotic about their poor standard foam tips; all they offered me was 10% off an order of replacement tips. I went with their small isolation tips, which turned out to be more comfortable and seem to have better construction. Isolation is similar.
I also ordered (from Amazon) a set of T-100 Comply foam small isolation tips. They were an improvement in sound, although at the cost of a bit less isolation. But they are MUCH more comfortable. And they seem to be better built than either set of Etymotic foam tips.
Based on my experience with the small Comply tips, I ordered the medium isolation tips from Drop here. I was hoping for increased isolation with minimal discomfort and similar sound quality. I got those benefits, though they are an EXTREMELY tight fit on the earphones, to the point the small and medium T-100 tips don't seem to have the same sized tube.
So here's my ranking and brief summaries of each:
4 - Standard Etymotic foam tip (mfg direct): very good sound, very uncomfortable due to large size for my ear canals
3 - T-100 Comply foam medium isolation tips (from here): sound a bit less muffled across the board, huge improvement in comfort with minimal reduction in isolation
2 - Etymotic small isolation tips (mfg direct): sound even less muffled, a tiny bit less comfortable, better isolation than the medium Comply tips
1 - T-100 Comply small isolation tips (from Amazon): the clearest sound, most comfortable tips, least (but still quite a bit of) isolation
Throughout this entire trial process, I figured out how best to remove and replace foam tips. They should all last quite long now. And they're all comfortable enough I'll use them all before buying any more.
