The sound is good, but they have an automatic standby feature that can't be disabled, which means they don't start producing sound until ~5 seconds after they receive input. This is fine if you're using them for long sessions, but it makes them useless as external speakers for the Echo, and useless for any notification sounds on systems that aren't already being used.
Really wanted to like these, but I replaced them with something that doesn't have this feature.
I woke up one night to find my cat laying on top of one of my JBL LSR305s, having a wonderful time reaching down and slowly picking apart the woofer surround. Apparently the foam was just delightful to shred.
JerkamieThey come with covers. I have four cats; I took the covers OFF. To prevent them collecting fur. I've have mine since 2014 without problem, I've had the cats longer.
I've owned these speakers for over ten years. As a professional audio producer and field recordist, I continue to be amazed at how accurately they reproduce the concerts that I record. Voice and piano (and even pipe organ, to a point) are especially well represented. Build quality is not rock solid (a couple of jacks have always been a bit loose), so I'm gentle with them. The separate bass and treble controls are a rare feature at this price. I don't hear the mid-bass hype that others have mentioned, so it's possible that Creative changed the specs. I sometimes roll off the bass a bit, because the overall low frequency output is surprisingly strong. For less-than-critical listening, the T40s are very satisfying and an excellent value.
maxrochAlso worked in production. These are terrific consumer-geared speakers for the price range. Not a flat EQ, but pleasant consumer EQ. Of course you can always get better and flatter speakers for hundreds more, but these are great gateway speakers to great sound.
psicloneNot only a different product, but the top link is for an ebay-type entity that represents sellers who are probably not authorized merchants; therefore, you get no factory warranty!!
The bottom is link for Newegg, which is an authorized merchant for the items that you buy DIRECT from them.
I have these, and to be honest, they're not really that worth it. They're a bit imbalanced, in V-shaped signature, emphasizing a supposed bass. I say supposed because if all you want is bass, a 2.1 setup will be much better. But at this price point, you're better off getting a good pair of headphones and then cheap speakers when you're tired of listening through them, or listening to casual things like the radio or something.
Well, these have finally arrived. I only auditioned them for an hour, but I can easily tell it has the signature Creative build quality, because after an hour of playback the RIGHT SPEAKER HAS STOPPED FUCKING WORKING.
And, much like my old Creative Inspire T3030's remote, slapping the speaker on the side brings the audio back.
Please people, do yourselves a favour and invest another $100 in a brand that respects itself.
As for sound, it'll take a few weeks for me to form an opinion, but it's generally whole and detailed. I do have a problem with the bass, not the quantity nor extension, but rather the utterly unnecessary emphasis on upper bass. The 160 Hz area I feel is way too pronounced, making the sound an "oomphy" annoying one.
Update (16/09/17): I took the right speaker apart to try and troubleshoot the problem. The unit appears to be refurbished - there's stupidly large amount of plastic glue everywhere, even on screws. It looks like crap. These don't seem to be meant for repair. Anyways, I tried to tight the connections on everything, and untwisted some of the cables. After reassembly, it appears to have worked, and I hadn't have any problems for the past 3 days.
As for sound, these are not an upgrade for my old Creative Inspire T3030. The T3030 weren't detailed or extended as these, but at least they were consistent in their sound and were balanced. The T40 II just produces V-shaped sound withe WAAAAAAAY too much emphasis on high bass, with bass in general sounding hollow and overtakes on the rest of the spectrum. To use the term "audiophile" and "high-end" when talking about these is a miserable load of advertising crap.
Bottom line, like I originally said, if you want good speakers, invest a couple more dollars and get a pair that doesn't cater for the masses. Frankly, I wouldn't mind my T40 II malfunctioning again, just so I could have an excuse to throw them to the bin.
Meh, you pays yer money and you takes yer chances. I bought a pair of these when I needed some very flat speakers to fit under a monitor. They've served me well for about 5 years now, and they sound a lot better than most "computer" speakers. Personally, I'm not so worried if a product is screwed up, I'm a lot more concerned about how the company handles it.
DaedJust to be clear, I still use them, and I'd go as far as saying that in a spacious environment (living room or a centered desktop), these would probably sound a lot better than in a corner and 40 cm from my face. Additionally, compared to generic desktop speakers, these no doubt present a substantial improvement.
However, to slap "Audiophile design" on this speaker set is a load of bullshit, and will inevitably attract negative attention from listeners expecting "audiophile performance".
BReal38The PreSonus Eris E3.5s.
It sucks to throw away a good pair of speakers like the Mackies because of a gimmicky L/R switch. I tried to mess around with the circuit board to fix it, but ultimately gave up.

Any chance it's available with an EU power adapter?
They are great speakers, but a few things to note...
1) I bought mine for $80 three years ago.
2) The new series of these are Bluetooth, have better woofers, and have been out for two years or more now... At around the same asking price here.
I still use as my go to speakers when i dont wanna use my nice headphones. Had to send em in a couple years after i bought them but creative replaced them for free. If space is an issue i would grab these.
