The CRKT Pilar is named after the boat that Ernest Hemingway used to spy on German U-boats in the Caribbean during World War II. A Jesper Voxnaes design through and through, the Pilar is what the Danish knifemaker imagined Hemingway might have carried as his everyday folder Read More
So which one of these options come with 8Cr13MoV vs. D2? I don't see it mentioned anywhere in the detail. Historically, it's only been the black blade, which I have no interest in.
Won't massdrop collaborate with CRKT to produce a Massdrop-exclusive version with S30V steel (or other steel) like what BladeHQ did? I would buy it in a heartbeat
I really like this knife, it's a great size for EDC in my admittedly inexperienced opinion. I can't leave a review because I didn't buy it from Massdrop (I found it $5 cheaper somewhere else with fast shipping), but wherever you buy it from I think you'll be happy with it.
I always see people bitching about the pricing of drops cause they can find it for maybe a lil cheaper or same price as amazon or some of the other knife distributors. Massdrop has never said they are the cheapest or best deal, but they are going to offer better deals then the manufacturer direct will.
UsrnameUnknownBut what is the justification that folks should use, and tell themselves, in order to pay more for the item at Massdrop than somewhere else for the same item? Is there an implied loyalty that is supposed to overwhelm us and drive us to buy from Massdrop, no matter what? Have to remember to factor in shipping and sales tax as well. Because if there is a secret way to get folks to blindly follow Massdrop no matter what the cost, then I'd like to know the secret, so that I can do this myself as well.
This looks similar to my Bestech Hornet except the handle is smaller and much prettier. Looking at my Hornet, I recall what one girl in my high school said about the day after The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. "Ringo's so ugly he's cute." I wouldn't go that far. The green and black hand is ugly to the bone, or liners. (It feels wonderful in hand.) I was thinking that if everyone carried one of these, would it be a Pilar of Society? And was it really named after a sail boat? It sounds more likely to have been named after a pharmacist or the dope man.
lol i just bought this knife last week off BladeHQ. $50 for the D2 black coated blade with black G10 scales.
Don't buy here, this isn't a deal at all. Any other knife store selling these will ship out faster and have a decent return policy.
Got the G10/D2 version of the original-sized Pilar from Blade HQ (for $40). I like everything about it except the action. It's difficult to open one-handed and almost impossible to flick open. I put a drop of oil on the pivot, but that didn't seem to help much. Only had it a couple of days, so maybe it will break in and get better.
CorbeyMine sure did: after a day or two I’m able to “spydiflick” mine. I’m shocked at how GOOD the action is on mine both before and after I swapped the scale and backspacer. I suggest playing with yours some Moore.
