Product Description
Your headphones might deliver clear, powerful sound—but if they’re not comfortable, you won’t be wearing them for long. Upgrade your pair with Dekoni ear pads, available here for the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, the Beyerdynamic DT Series, and other popular cans Read More
You are wrong on two accounts bass is very much depended on pad material and velour is not recommended for good bass(I used Brainwavz velour and pleather pads), second is that I am not a basshead M50 bass is most I can handle but people buy M50 for VFM and bass but sound is subjective so I leave it to that.
indi_guyAnd I gave my opinion knowing that. I didn't imply you were a basshead or that pad material didn't matter.
I did give some flaws that pleather have. They aren't as comfy as velour, they make you sweat and feel hot and they do wear down badly, making little black dust pieces (never lasted a year for me before they did that).
I bought the velour from another drop and didn't find they affected the sound that much to be hated. They do affect bass but I don't think it affects it that much as you are implying. They do give you some comfort and your ears don't feel like they are in a furnace in a hot summer day.
I just think that each have their qualities and flaws and just saying "There would be no bass and everything will sound really bad." doesn't do velour justice. This debate has been ongoing forever. Pleather vs velour. Closed vs open cans.
But, as you said, to each their own.
I was looking to replace my HP pads but 22 usd shipping for a 32 usd pair of pad is hilarious. Probably you can ship gold to Antarctica for this money.
Is a bit of shame when this happens. If you can not handle reasonable shipping rates for a product that is lightweight, not liquid, no battery, no dangerous substance, not fragile etc. than remain in your town and don't offer such service. I will be ashame if I will do something like that. Unfortunatelly shame and common sense are rare commodities nowadays.
Does anyone know from experience if the opening on the memory foam pair for Beyerdynamic has the same size opening as the standard and velour? I've always bought replacements from Beyer because I was worried about the opening, and from the pictures they appear to be considerably smaller.
I would like my DT880/COPs to stay over-ear as no amount of memory foam or plush leather is going to make them comfortable as on-ears.
HeadRush33I have the leather/memory foam Dekoni pads on my 880's. They definitely have enough room for my ears, and still function as designed, as over ear headphones. They are really comfortable. Definitely more isolated than the velour pads that came with the 880's, to be expected, I've really enjoyed the change, and it hasn't affected the soundstage to detriment.
GregLastThanks, I actually picked these up in the last drop after getting reassurance from a different online retailer that the inside circumference was the same as the stock pads. I also find them comfortable, but I did notice that the stitching is a little uneven and Dekoni uses the term "memory foam" very loosely. While the "protein leather" is rather plush the stuffing feels just like that of a normal set of pads.
The Memory Foam Pads are Protein Leather Memory Foam (not velour)
The Memory Foam pads are incredibly comfortable and are great especially for users who have to use them for extended periods of time.
M50 Pads fit M40, M30, M20 and all the X models of that as well
bjwThe memory foam upgrades are of a premium soft leather and are squared off where they meet your head. This is designed to provide better isolation and fit.
Just received and tested the Memory Foam Leather earpads over few weeks.
Tested on: DT770 and DT990 Premium
Pros:
Very soft and comfortable. Compared to original velour, works best for people wearing large frame glasses. The frame at the side of your ears just sits there without much appreciated pressure from the pads
Cons:
It's greatest sin is the muffling of lower frequencies.
Effect on mids and treble is less so but A/B-ing with original pads, you can tell its about 30% or so. Timbre of female voices is affected most. Sparkle is reduced as well
Effect on bass: The greatest difference is heard in reverbs. Hence, any guitars sounds weird and incomplete for lack of a better word. There is just nothing I can do to "Fix" this issue, I've tried clamping harder, angling the pads to no avail. The only other option is to cut open the pads and add/change the foam with the type found in old Denon pads.
Overall, the pads kill off substantially the life in any music. Tracks sound duller due to the bass getting effected
For neutral cans, the effect is less pronounced as heard in DT770. This is my second attempt at non-original pads. I think that's it for me, lesson learnt, back to original Beyer pads
Ordered the memory foam and regular velour ones for my DT990pros. Memory foam pads completely destroy the sound and essentially makes them unusable. Everything is super "muddled" and "bassy" now. I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but this is coming from someone who isn't a hardcore audiophile or anything. I bought the regular velour pads as a backup just in case of this, but unfortunately they seem like they won't be usable either. The backing on them is different from the stock DT990 in that they lack the little holes which, I assume, allows more sound to pass through. Huge disappointment and waste of money. I've already ordered official stock replacements from Beyerdynamic.
