You can only fit so much history into a pair of pants—and our Dickies Cramerton Chinos are at capacity. They’re made from genuine Cramerton Army Cloth: the official material used in U.S. military uniforms during WWII. They’re also outfitted with heritage detailing, including a USA-made Elite YKK zipper, signature long-tunnel belt loops for extra strength, 100-percent cotton herringbone pocket bags, and Emsig Melamine buttons. Crafted in the classic Dickies 874 shape featured in workwear, streetwear, and everyday wear for the better part of a century, these trousers are trend-proof. They won’t go out of style—but they will go out of stock. Cramerton Army Cloth is no longer produced and increasingly hard to procure, which is why we made just 150 pairs of this exclusive.
When it comes to these one-of-a-kind chinos, the name “Cramerton” comes up a lot. That’s because it’s in every stitch of their design, and it has a history unlike any other. Founded by Stuart W. Cramer in the late 19th century, Cramerton Mills quickly became the leading name for textile production in the United States. In 1929, Cramerton earned a contract to manufacture new uniforms for the US Army. That same year, Cramerton Army Cloth was born. Known for exceptional durability and softness, 8.2-ounce twill Cramerton Army Cloth was treasured by the soldiers who wore it. In 1942, Cramerton Mills received the Army-Navy “E” Award for Excellence —but the true award came from the thousands of soldiers who continued to wear Cramerton Army Cloth long after the war had ended.
Cramerton gets a lot of credit for the the standard uniform used in WWII, but that uniform didn’t happen without help from Dickies. While Cramerton Mills won the contract for the fabric, Dickies got the deal for the design. It was only fitting: The Texas-based clothier, founded in 1922 by C. N. Williamson and E. E. "Colonel'' Dickie, had earned an unrivaled reputation selling workwear to ranch hands around the American Southwest. During wartime in the 1940s, Dickies manufactured over nine million WWII army uniforms with Cramerton Army Cloth. When we got our hands on the very same fabric, we knew there was no better brand to partner with. Today, Dickies is sold in over 100 countries, worn by trendsetters in streetwear and high fashion, and used as workwear by professionals in the world’s biggest industries.
