Whether your headphones are worn down from hours of listening, or you want to upgrade the sound signature and elevate their overall build, a new pair of earpads will do the trick. Featured here are four different types of earpads designed for our flagship Sennheiser HD 6XX and 58X open-back headphones Read More
My comment on these (or any custom earpads for the Jubilee) is simply a review: The Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee headphones sound fantastic and feel great right out of the box. After you've spent your money on them, put your wallet away and place the cans on your ears. Enjoy immediately, without further ado. No additional steps or spending necessary.
I see what you did there!
Z is just really into customizing his stuff, and pads are the easiest way to do it. I think it was last year CanJam RMAF where he stayed at the Dekoni booth for like 45 minutes, but then again it’s a good booth to try out a bunch of different headphone brands.
Bud, one of the best things that I ever did in my life is unsubscribe from that BOZO last year. No more ranting and raving or those cartoon girls he kept on posting, what a joke
PastafarianLemurYes please. Solid info on the effects of different pads on sound can be very hard to come by. Anyone who has pad rolled can tell you the effects caused by distance from ear, volume inside the cup, and material used, all play a role. All three combined can drastically alter the sound qualities.
Edit: It seems that these are not the original HD 6XX pads, so thankfully my comment doesn't apply.
Warning! If these velour pads are the same as the ones that ship with the HD 6XX, they will stain any surface they rest on. I have black stains on several pieces of paper and even a grey rock, just from letting the headphones rest on them overnight. So far I have been unable to remove the stains.
BTW, got to talk to Ronja Harste, product manager for the Massdrop Edition headphones at Sennheiser. Apparently, the drivers, earpads, and a few other components still come from the same factories they always have, it’s just they shipped the injection mold tooling for the enclosure to Romania and assemble it there.
Sennheiser HD 580/600/650/660S sound signature depends heavily on its earpads. Changing pads will significantly affect timbre, and probably not in a good way.
To emphasize how significant the change is - A year old Senn that was used daily does not sound the same as a brand new unit. This is due to earpad degradation. If you use your Senn as a reference headphone, it is recommended to change OEM pads every year or so.
Aftermarket earpads for HD 580/600/650/660S (such as these or Dekoni) are fun experiments, but please keep in mind that you are deviating from the manufacturer's sound signature.
zep483Thanks for the input... I joined for the 58X, so I took your advice and grabbed the lambskin. Overall, very good. I think they may have slightly improved the sound (to my preferences) but certainly the comfort (again, for me) and, without going into too much detail here, I can say the audible impact was slight and I would be surprised if anyone found it too offensive. Thanks again.
