Overpriced, even at $55 "sale" price. Schiit sells 10 inch XLR pair from either Straightwire or Snakeoil cables for $40. And you can still go cheaper if you want...
skulkidraeCables are a ludicrously inflated market now.
I’ve been making my own since my car audio days in the 90’s . I can just justify a lot of the pricing these days.
skulkidraeTypically, I can buy 4 Neutric XLR connectors for around $20 AUD and Canare L- 2T2S cable for around $3 AUD a metre. So, reasonably good quality parts works out around $22 for the parts and about $20 postage so you can make the cable yourself. Then of course, there is my time which is not trivial because it take a fair bit or it to do 4 XLR connections to a standard that will perform well and reliably over a long time (decades). Also an investment in tools. My soldering iron about $100 and my DMM to test the job $150 and of course all the other paraphernalia.
The length of the cable is practical immaterial in this. The plugs and your time are the same cost the same no matter how short or long the cable is. The length of cable is absolutely trivial.
Don’t most quality xlr cables use star quad? How do you even properly wire balanced audio with 2 conductors? Are they running one of the pins on the shield? O_o
Oops, sorry. Took me a little while to understand your question.
They only state that there's 2 conductors because there really is just 2 conductors (1 hot 1 cold). The 1st pin is actually soldered to the shielding (which is a weave of tiny wires around the 2 conductors), so it doesn't count as a conductor (as it's not doing anything).
