Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the D01 DAC/amp from FX Audio fits an impressive array of hardware into a streamlined, rack-mountable form factor. Handling digital-to-audio conversion, an ES9038Q2M DAC chip delivers a large dynamic range and low distortion—thanks in part to a built-in asynchronous frequency-up function that eliminates clock jitter from digital reception. A second-generation XMOS XU208 USB chip supports sampling rates up to 32-bit, 768 kilohertz PCM and DSD512, while a high-performing TPA6120A2 amplifier from Texas Instruments can drive headphones with impedance levels ranging from 32 ohms all the way up to 600 ohms. For convenient connectivity, a CSR8675 Bluetooth 5.0 chip supports the latest wireless codecs, including aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, and LDAC.
