What's the advantage of a blade with this kind of shape as opposed to a traditional pocket knife blade?

K.ChenI'm assuming that by 'traditional', you mean a drop or clip point as those are probably the most common/default blade profiles. If so: You'd basically treat any wharncliffe/sheepsfoot as a utility blade for the most part. With this one, it goes for a cleaver profile which means it gives up it's poke/spear potential. Since it's stylized after a cleaver, you could argue that it may be nice for food prep as it has a larger face and may be a good chopper. However, it's face is far smaller, and it has far less weight behind the edge compared to any typical cleaver. Those are kinda the two big things that make a cleaver a cleaver. To me, It's a nice looking blade and I'd love to have one just for the novelty. Unfortunately, it does not fit my criteria :( TL:DR: Opening boxes, precise cuts using the tip, and other wharncliffe/sheepsfoot related pluses due to the flat edge. Mostly for aesthetics, serves no real advantage as the weight and size that makes a cleaver useful are not present. Maybe sharpen the front edge and get a budget Razel with a partially exposed edge when closed(Please don't do this) :)

K.ChenThink of it as less than a cleaver, more a useful pocket camping knife for al fresco food prep, butter knife, whittling, stuff like that. Making things like feather sticks for fire lighting would be a good use. Regular pocket knife blades don’t lend themselves to those sort of uses quite as well. I’ve got loads of different knives, including a CRKT Pilar, which is my favourite EDC knife, but the blade is too short for the sort of uses mentioned above; looking forward to getting my Flatiron for when I can get out the tent and go away camping again.

Have had this knife for about two months . Bought it at Academy, could not find it anywhere online: paid $39.00 for . It’s a slicer for sure; came razor shape . I did put a mirror edge on it . Quite the conversation piece. It’s one heck of a knife and the Micarta feels great in the hand; love the blue color. Beaut knife and ethos are on point ; no hot spot to speak of . Get you one .

Just pointing out an error that made it through the proof-read: "A liner lock prevents the blade from accidentally closing" but the photos and the rest of the description correctly describe a frame lock.

I'm in the minority, I guess, and it's because of so many poorly designed frame locks.
NetherspriteThanks for catching that. I corrected it.

KcMidnightIt's more expensive for me to purchase and ship from BladeHQ than from Drop, so I will wait patiently and hope it ships soon.

Kipster85Yeah I got that too. Fingers crossed it won’t be too delayed. Even so; with the exchange rate and the price being low I got a bargain so I’m not complaining.

What the chances it actually ships on the estimated ship date? I keep seeing online posts from people who got them in the wild and it is making me jealous.

I really love the finish of this blade and the mirror polished edge I put on it.

I understand that there are very few of these out in the wild, but anyone here have experience with this and the previous 7cr version? If so, any notable differences between the two?

GoCityI did not have the 7cr version , but the new one seems pretty solid . Saw Nick Shabazz’s vide review of the Flatirons and it seems to me that the fix most of the weaknesses of the previous versions. It is truly a knife to behold in person and to hold. And it’s pretty cool looking espetón the blue Micarta .
