The SR80 was my first "good" HP. It was a piece of crap a dozen years ago when I bought and I see that Grado doesn't appear to have changed a thing since. What kind of HP company doesn't try to improve their products? It's not as if the design is perfect, or even adequate. The cups spin 360 degrees, so the wires get twisted, which probably contributed to the short that ultimately killed mine. The stiff vinyl headband is uncomfortable. The earpads are made of some foam that turns into black powder as it ages and leaves your ears coated. Oh, and the sound is shrill. In short: junk.

who cares about made in USA? that's a relic of the past.......oh wait weatherteck products are proudly made in america, i gotta hear this shit every morning from the radio ad. so yeah, go buy some floormats and shove em up ur ass. where do you think the computer you are using to post in here is from? not a sweat shop? yeah ok. where do you think all your clothes are made in? you telling me you only buy american? then i think you are only wearing socks. and what is it to buy american? the only american people in this country are native americans, they are in the gambling and tobacco business btw. i support them everyday by buying my tax free smokes. NYalexSo what you are saying is there should be no middle class or skilled labor jobs in the US. You think the only options there should be are to be a cashier at Walmart or to own Walmart. There are some things that aren't made in the USA and it makes me very sad. Computers are certain electronics just can't be done. That's a fact of life. And I can tell you all of my clothes are 100% made and sourced in the USA because I care enough about my country to make sure of that. Most of my clothes are from Flint & Tinder. A lot of my work clothing is from All American Clothing. My shoes are SAS and some of the ones I've gotten from this site. You are free to click on my profile and see them. "Native" Americans traveled here from Asia; everyone living in the US is an American. But you smoke, which is a defining factor of the proletariat, so I really shouldn't expect understanding of a larger picture from you.

I came here to talk about headphones, lol what is going on..
Yep, we do need mods but to @Zer0lag's point, we want to be very deliberate and careful of what it means to put mods in place and give them directives.

WillMods don't need to talk, they just need to be able to eradicate certain threads. There is an existing flag button for spam. Add a secondary function that lets us flag off-topic or undesired comments or make a whole new button for that sole purpose. Have someone check through reported stuff weekly or some time interval. Does it contribute to discussion about the product and the report is false? Dismiss the claim. Is it unnecessary and serves to take discussion away from the product? Nuke it from orbit.
No explanation. No discussion. The mod doesn't need presence. The mod doesn't need to be a mod. We just need some sort of system in place for such a situation as this.

Awesome, Grado on massdrop! I have the older SR80i, and they are absolutely rocking headphones. They honestly sound so good for the money, and there are small mods that you can do to make them sound even better. I have heavily modded my SR80 (opened for more air, wood cups instead of the plastic, custom cable etc) and they seriously rival the AKG K7XX from massdrop. Keep in mind because they are open back, they wont give you head blowing bass, but instead a clean and accurate bass (which I much prefer). These headphones will not disappoint, especially at this price!
DONT LET YOUR HEADPHONE DREAMS BE HEADPHONE DREAMS. JUST DO IT!

You are correct, the number of stock Grados would by all means outnumber the few that are modded. Something to keep in mind, I had my SR-80s for a year and a half before I started thinking about modding them, it wasnt something I did straight away.

As a hard core modder. (started with psp when I was younger) its a personality thing. My Sr80e have Purple Heart Cups and the leather band strap. It does change the sound but 1 it was stupid easy to do and 2 its looks so good with the new cups. The wood also give a more open sound too.

What is the difference between these and the Alessandro MS-1's I am reading that the Alessandro are pretty much the sr125i series but better. But I'm not sure about the new e-series from Grado
The Alessandro Are made by grado and Alessandro. Just trying to figure out the differences
Having fairly neutral headphones in my arsenal, I'd say though that the Grado's are anything but.
They are treble and mid forward more so than the broad range of headphones out there that would be considered neutral. (I have the AKG K7XX, Beyerdynamic DT990, and Mr. Speakers Alpha Prime)
I'm not sure how they tuned the Alessandro's to be better for rock.
I suppose the question comes down to if you listen to rock or classical? And would you prefer the Alessandro's for rock over classical? I see the Grado's as good for both because of the treble and mid forward stance.

solomon_tingsam_liYeah, having owned SR-60, SR-60i, SR-80, SR-225, MS-1, MS-Pro i, RS-1i, I can tell you that the Alessandros are a more neutral tuning than the house Grados. Grados have more treble and a more forward midrange. Alessandros are a bit more controlled and flat.
For most modern music, the average listener would probably prefer Grado to Alessandro - even i.e. SR-60 to MS-1. For stuff like vocal music, classical, I'd take Alessandros.
As for Grado themselves, while I admire the Brooklyn-based manufacturing commitment, their distributor arrangement is crap, and this not-honouring-warranty policy is even worse. Despicable. So hard to find them around the world, and the MSRP gets inflated because distributors suck. So kudos to Massdrop for offering them.

Good to see Grado getting in on the action. It's always nice to see the Massdrop market expand.

AkumaKuronoAs far as I know SR80e has more bass and more "punch" as people put it. I'm assuming it's a warmer and fuller kind of headphone, so my guess is that SR60e might appeal better to audiophiles for a clearer flatter signature and SR80e might appeal to those that want a more "fun" headphone.
Though most of the entry level Grado line don't sound too different from each other so this won't be a night and day difference.
But now I'm curious what the difference are between SR80e and SR125e, I know SR125e has wider soundstage but I wonder sound signature wise what the difference are.

HydeThe 80e has "tighter" bass, but is basically the same exact overall signature. Essentially the 80 sounds exactly like the 60, but more refined and "faster" with less distortions, making it smoother sounding than the 60e with fewer spikes.

I find the foam earpads extremely uncomfortable as well, which is why I rarely use my SR-80's. Plus the light weight of the headphones paired with the thick cables means the headphones are easily pulled off with the slightest movement. With that said though, I do enjoy the sound of these headphones and will probably join the drop. I think these are a good deal at the drop price; I don't think I've ever seen Grados on sale.

Great now I feel like I'm the asswhore for talking about headphones instead of indescrimitely, and personally attacking the character and nationality of the previous 5 posters. Sorry ass punks, I'm too old school for this thread. That was me calling you sorry, not an apology.
