Product Description
Forging a much-anticipated flagship in its Wood Series line, JVC has created the HA-FW1800: a fusion of two sought-after earphone models in one audio essential. From the anniversary HA-FW10000 IEM, the HA-FW1800 features JVC’s ultra-thin 50-micrometer birchwood dome carbon diaphragms to deliver expansive, natural-sounding audio.
Forgive my incredulity, but isn't there a point at which size and form matter? I have a hard time believing that any IEM, no matter how revolutionary its engineering, could sound enough better than the IEMs in the $200 range to justify a $600 price tag. The only way the sound could justify the expense is if you're the kind of suggestible person for whom an audio placebo effect causes more expensive equipment to sound better. And if you are that kind of person, then it's a shame these only cost $600, because if they cost $1,200, they would probably sound twice as good.
JustinKalmAs everything, it depends, and diminishing returns law applies as well.
My first expensive earphones were the Shure846. I got them at special price of AU$600 almost 3 years ago. In 2018-2019 I collected earphones with prices between $10 to $1000. Assuming that we are compering the earphones using the same sources and equipment, I can say this:
Shure SE846 are the best. Much better than the Massdrop x Empire Ears Zeus Universal that cost me twice as much. Even when using balanced cable to a balanced source (Sony NW-ZX300). Also the Cardas EM5813 (~$200) sound better than the Empire Zeus.
Zeus sounds better than BGVP DMG and DM6 using good equipment such as with a Mojo amp, but the BGVP sound the same than the Zeus using just iPhone 6 or S8.
Zeus and Shure846 sound better than the Venture Electronic Monk Plus ($12). Do they sound 40-80 times better, the answer is NO. Also higher price does not guaranty better sound, but my Shure846 Au$600 earphones are better than any sub $600 that I have tried.
JustinKalmEver heard of. The "Ooooohhhh, Japanese quality and cool materials geek factor" its a thing, and uh... Yeah thats why I'm broke. If it dont float your boat, fair. If you dont want to pay for that, also fair. If you think its going to make a massive difference in sound quality, jokes on you. Although I have heard the baby brother of these and they do sound quite good. These JVC's (in this form factor) have great tuning and I love them.
@Drop+Audiophile Any chance of seeing the FR and other plots? Would be helpful since this isn't identical to the FW10000. Also, any comparisons to the FDX1 would be great as I'm sure many folks are going to be asking this.
jaydunndidditGenerally Drop only publishes their own FR measurements for products which are either a collaboration or designed by Drop Studio. We will request a graph from the manufacturer and will update once we have it. Thanks for your interest in the product.
Lol just cos you have never heard of it means it's shady lol. Sue haha please it ain't gonna work. Not everyone on the planet has a court system that does something as ridiculous as where you are which I assume is america, given the ease of which how they sue😂
It's a well-known shopping website in the SEA region based in Singapore. Basically anyone can make an account and sell there. However, to be registered as a "Shopee Mall" account like in OP's link, you have to be a licensed retailer that store products in Shopee's warehouses for quick delivery (most likely a local brick-and-mortar that wants to expand to sell online), so Shopee can guarantee that the goods sold under their "Mall" banner are genuine.
In this case it links to a listing by Jaben Malaysia, which is an audio retailer here in Asia.
I still need more listening time to do a full review, but these are everything you'd want from a JVC woodie. If you liked the HA-FW01 then jump on these. My only complaint is that they didn't include a cable wrap or clip, but the JVC website lists them as included accessories.
I purchased this headphones since it released in Japan last Nov in day 1. This is definitely good for its price. I also tested quite a lot upgrade cable for this headphones in e-earphone japan and bought an SAEC SHC-220FS cable for it. That cable provides a huge upgrade regarding to its sound, which makes it almost as good as FW-10000.
My "expensive cable" has a pleasing weight and flexibility, and is a of a suitable length, and is durable and resistant to tangles, and it has a pretty silver braid that garners compliments - ergo, better sound! :D
Don't get these guys started. Despite all evidence to the contrary, there is large group of audiophiles who believe the more expensive the cable is, the better the sound of the phones. Evidence be damned.
LGCiHi, just curious how possible it would be to get 4,380 points since the usual rate is 1 point per dollars spent? So even at their non-discounted price it would only be 599 points (3 points per dollar is only for Drop Studio products).
Or am I missing something?
I do not know if this iem(drop exclusive) differ from regular fw1800 from JVC. Drop says they used fw10000(victor) driver for this iem. If it is true, then this is a very good deal. Fw-10000(victor) is readily available in South Korea and I had an opportuniy to listen to its demo unit in a headphone shop in Korea. It was the best natural sounding iem I've ever heard. It has a vast sound stage, great instrument separation, and one of the best resolution I ever heard from any iems. I almost sold my sony z1r but with this price now I don't have to. I just hope they tune this iem similar to fw-10000. I really loved the sound from Victor.
I wouldn't call it a basshead iem. Sure the bass region is emphasized for z1r just little bit but it is well controlled, not masking mids or highs, and extends better on lows. Victor, in other hand, is more linear iem with bit forward on vocals and and more sparkles on highs. They are both great, however, i find victor to have better instrument separation despite of having 1 dd while z1r having a hybrid form factor.
The FW10k has less bass quantity than the FDX1 which has less bass quantity than the FW01, if that context helps at all. They all are a bit mid forward with sparkle/air up top, but the FW10k pushes that a bit more forward than the others. The FW01 is easily the warmest in the group. If you are looking for something bass heavy, the FW01 would be your best bet.
