I turned off Rays comments months ago, even without that context I could still tell he's up to the same old antics. Just a lonely dude looking for validation via endorsements on every drop on the site.
I love my Koss kph30i. It is my daily driver on commutes. Sadly I already broke 2 of it. I know it is inexpensive and can be replaced immediately. I like the sound, lightweight, stylish retro-style and the price compared to my other headphones and it is open-back! Instead of throwing away the 1st one - grey, I fixed the cracked headband with epoxy and shared the love for Koss to my sister and she loved the sound. This is now beige retro color (in the photo). I modded the headband with a padded metal band I cannibalized from an inexpensive headphone. The problem I noticed with kph30i’s headband is at the adjustment part is the weak part where the stem below is thick and becomes thin holding the middle headband part. Both of my headphones broke in the same point. I hope Koss can make a ver. 2.0 of this. The same driver, metal headband and removable cable probably mmcx (so that we can switch to balanced cable or if the cable breaks).
Sorry, I don’t have the headphones anymore. I gave it to my sister. I should’ve sent you the picture of the hinge part of the mumuso headband where I attached the koss earpiece with the stem.
I could not wait for my Beige version to arrive. So I got the grey one from Koss.com on Black Friday for $20 USD. I must say it is AMAZING for the price. Loving it so far. Here are a few pictures I took as well:
StumpyWhat about the clamping force? I bought a massdrop one and the way it clamps on my ears for anything more than an hour made it feel like it's slowly bruising my ears
Got these off amazon and I've been wearing them with stock pads for a few weeks in and out of the house and they're surprisingly comfortable for how thin and stiff the foam is. Had to put the Yaxi's on them at some point. And since I couldn't find any photos of them taken apart here's some crummy shots.
I definitely recommend taking them apart completely by separating the driver housing from the rear housing, and then working the new pads around the prongs on the driver housing. Reassemble making sure the snaps are clear of the foam pads so they go in easy. These seem like really good candidates for MMCX modding too. I just don't have the time to go at that now.
Super comfortable with the Yaxi's, slightly more width while retaining what I like about them stock. Only regret is not having the balls to get them in beige :P
OrangutangLooks great! I bought (414) yellow and (walkman) orange to go with a grey set I bought. I ordered a white pair for back up and Red and Blue pads. I like the yellow on the grey as they look similar to the ol 414. :-)
The new pads do sound great and are a lot more comfortable. I also amp them, which helps a lot.
This was my first ever drop 😢 Little did I know what I was getting into.
I did a video comparing KPH30i to the other Koss budget phones. I know Porta Pro and KSC75 get more love -- and they deserve it -- but IMO the KPH30i is the best overall package. Great sound with present mids, thumpy bass, and a soundstage I can't get out of IEMs costing 5x what these cost. And the form factor beats the other Koss 'phones, IMHO.
I left a comment earlier but I've been able to spend a couple of weeks with this headphone so wanted to do an update. Given sound is subjective I'm going give it a shot at describing what I'm hearing. I've owned/or currently own TOTL cans from Audeze, Sennheiser, ZMF, Mrspeakers and Beyerdynamic. This is the biggest surprise I've encountered in years. It takes a few tweaks but once you dial it in this headphone is absolutely spectacular and stunning in musicality. First off it scales up dramatically with my Dragonfly Red over my Nexus 6p internal dac. Secondly, the headphone needs a little EQ. The mid bass needs about a 2db drop. 1khz to 3khz needs about a 2.5 db boost and above 3khz needs about 1.5db of boost. Once this is done, this headphone doesn't just sound great for the money but is a spectacular headphone period. Of course is subjective again. The bass reminds me a little of the HD650 (Of course not as textured but not that far off .) The vocals are fairly forward but natural and full bodied. The treble is extended but relaxed. The imaging and soundstage are both very good. Wow. Such a wonderful surprise. I own 3 now.
Deutsche78704Would you be willing to post the exact settings you are using? I am in love with the kph30's comfort, and if the sound improved just a little (as you say, the midbass lowered), it's probably my permanent solution for now. Please post the parametric settings!! Thanks.
