Product Description
One of Kovea’s best-selling stoves, the Spider provides a powerful, evenly distributed flame and folds down compactly for easy storage when you’re on the go. It’s a great solution for year-round backpackers, combining the reliable convenience of a top-mount canister stove with impressive cold-weather performance when the gas canister is inverted Read More

Got this on an earlier drop. Really impressed with the weight and size compared to my MSR Dragonfly. Have been on the lookout for a lightweight stove and couldn't beat the price. It seems just as stable and holds my larger pan set no problem.

Yeah, I've had the dragonfly since about 1999. Was time for an upgrade! :)

So this is essentially the MSR Windpro II stove less the inverted canister stand and a simpler looking stove. Oh, and it costs $50 less. If both are made by Kovea, I think this stove is a fantastic value. The only problem is shipping time, I really need a stove for the 20th of December since I'm going camping then. Maybe I'll buy a cheap $10 canister stove and get this one for the future, when the former will be for backup.

Hey you are the guy in the video! That video sold me on the spider. How it can fit the whole kit inside a cook set while the windpro is too large.
I had already decided on this stove but I will have to buy a basic $10 stove from Amazon 'till it is delivered. Honestly this is the competition we need for MSR since they can get expensive.

Mario.PaulYeah, that's the thing that really sold me on the Spider: It's *significantly* more compact than the MSR Windpro, Optimus Vega, or really any other remote canister stove that comes to mind. The new GSI 4 season pinnacle might come close, but I haven't seen it in person yet.
Now, they just need to get the weight down by 2 ozs, and then they'll really have something, and yes I have been bugging them about it.

At $41.99 plus shipping the Massdrop price is slightly higher than Amazon Prime (USA) and the MD commit at a lower price doesn't seem to work. Why are the prices no longer competitive or very low at MD? Amazon is much more convenient and faster so it is logical to expect them to be more not less.
The piezo lighter was, well, a non-starter. The stove, however is fantastic!

Buffy.the.Mosquito.SlayerMake sure the end of the igniter is touching the top of the burner, and that the gas is on low to medium.  Then click 2-3 times. That way it should light every time.

Nice stove. Quite heavy but solidly built and performs great. Check out a review here: http://adventuresinstoving.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/the-kovea-spider-kb-1109-remote.html

JoomyThank you @Joomy for posting the link to Jim's review of the Spider. That guy really knows his stoves and I take his reviews to be very objective and thoughtful.

DannyMilksalways fun to hear Jim talking about stove/stoving, when he has the time to do a regular night hike, and usually did some baking with his stove.

Great little stove. A wind screen is essential with this, however. Very susceptible to wind blow-outs. Also, expect a healthy spray of cold fuel on your fingers when unscrewing your canisters from this stove. I find myself always reaching for my pocket rocket instead of this, and offer this stove to non-backpacking friends when we head for a night or two.

The stove is $46 on ebay with free shipping and I can get it now. Massdrop needs to be more aggressive with the discounts, otherwise, what's the point?

BuddMost ebay sellers of Kovea products are doing so illegally, often from foreign countries. Those won't be warrantied by Kovea, whereas all of our products here on Massdrop are direct from Kovea and come with full warranty. If the ebay item you're looking at is legit, then that's great for you buy usually limited stock means that it won't work for hundreds of thousands of UL Community members, a good percentage of whom are overseas.

BuddIf you buy on eBay, you buy without a warranty. At the very least, make sure you verify that the product you buy on eBay is actually a Kovea product and that it is the export grade model. There have been reports that Chinese knock offs are being sold as though they were real Kovea products.

They great thing about this deal is that you get an authentic product and don't have to worry about eBay and Amazon knock-offs. I bought mine from a Shop I trust in the UK. Love the weight vs. performance value this little gem brings. (It's secure, stable and fires in all temperatures)

Grand total savings over Amazon Prime, $1.24. But at least it'll take three weeks to get it instead of overnight. There may be good deals on this site, but this was a wash.

Emu-72Yeah, not much savings here. Going to be doing my homework a bit more on future buys.

Is there any chance of having the butane adaptor added as an option in this drop as well as the LPG adaptor?
