From what I gathered, reading this comments section. 70% of people are salty that they can't afford it, 20% just want to join in, and 10% are actual customers.

One of the truisms of audiophile equipment is that past a certain point, you’re paying for exclusivity, quality of construction and sound signature, not accuracy or power. This is one of those products. I’d love to own one because it sounds awesome. For those who can afford one: Buy it. It’s an amazing amp. For those that can’t, take comfort in the fact that a THX 789 costs a lot less, is also a fantastic amp and will leave you with funds to buy something else that will probably deliver more bang for the buck.

I'm expecting there is a sizable percentage (myself included) that can afford the amp, but are salty because the price is stupid for what you get. Esquisite craftsmanship or not, $3k+ for an amp that is missing features that are readily found in $100-400 amps is stupid. I want good sound, I don't need an art piece that doesn't match anything else in my house. I'd rather take the $2000 I save by buying something that is not boutique and put it into something worth while... like more cans... or my investment account...

I appreciate the dedication to their customers in answering questions and offering feedback, and I also appreciate that they tried something different with the design. That said, I really want to see a company invest in furthering real, functional design in their products. So many high-end amplifiers miss the mark (user experience is a subjective thing, but I'd love to see an audio company really move that forward the way other tech companies have). I subjectively dislike this piece of equipment, but applaud the creative attempt nonetheless.

I would get Cayin's HA-300 over this. FAR more powerful, better sounding, can drive speakers, it's a bloody 300b amp (!), external PSU, better looking in my opinion. The only problem is that it's a 75 lb. Desk-sized beast. But does an audiophile really care? Forgot to mention, it's $3,999.

Beautiful sound and quality. I heard the Absolute and bought one. I have been around tubes since the 60's and have built my own equipment. What goes into this amp makes it well worth it. No piecing things together and hoping it won't like bozo the clown made it. I get very good transparency, dynamics and an open sound stage. It also drives my Abyss (latest version), without issue. Good stuff!

$3600..srs..You can DIY a single ended all DHT amp with Coleman Regulators Lundahl input and output TX for way less than this, hell, you could probably have Jack at Electraprint wind you a pair of solid silver secondary output and still be under $3.6K.

You know what would really drive the HE-6? How about a transformer coupled 6C33C 😁

Like the concept and the specs--any chance we could get a version without the jewelry for like a thousand bucks?

Thanks for the response. Eye candy is certainly appreciated but sets the bar a little high for those of us wanting to sample this level of performance without a second mortgage.

I hear you. Usually we'll bring out the aspirational piece first and then the more affordable one. Steelhead --> Chinook or VOXBOX --> CORE, for instance.

0.1 to 1% THD+N sounds a little scary.

How's a bottlehead crack measure? THD+N is bad if the noise or distortion is the bad kind, that's being measured, but if it's signal distortion due to the tubes changing sound signature, then it's desirable. I don't know how this is measured or if it even is measured in the THD score, I'd have to bet it is a part of the final percentage, as it's measuring for the accuracy of the signal, along with 2nd and beyond harmonics, both the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are where significant alterations in sound signature can occur that change the sound in a desirable way (if you're after coloring, and not clean, if you want clean, THX exists, I got 2 of em, and hopefully my SW51 tube amp gets here from russia soon, and I can have colored sound, and clean sound side by side). So I guess it comes down to what exactly is the measurement hearing, colored sound distortion, or bad static/noise distortion. The bad kind is why I never picked up a darkvoice (that and the fire hazard of it), was introducing too much of the bad distortion, I want it to register that the perfect 1khz tone was distorting into other frequencies slightly, but not noisey/static distortion/cracking distortion.

I found a page on the internet that answers your question: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/bottlehead-crack-technical-measurements.5473/ That's a good presentation of measured data and illustrates the need for comprehension and digesting of more than one THD number. What I could glean from that page in comparison to my product's measured performance is that the BH unit achieves 0.7% THD at 2mW output power level while the Manley unit hits that same level of THD when delivering 1W output in PP mode. (SE mode results in higher THD). And remember that any given headphone's sensitivity rating is given at a 1mW input level. One milliWatt. 0.001 of a Watt.

$3600 for a b-stock headphone amplifier? Seriously? Especially one as ugly and horribly laid out as this? Nope

Yeah, the HA-300 is dead sexy. Cheaper, no tone control, but with XLR connectivity. I don't really care about tone or eq in an amp, I'd rather do that between the signal source and the amp. Also, If I can get XLR input on a $99 hybrid headphone tube-amp (LOXJIE P20), I dang well expect it on a $3K+ amp. Something that is missing from this Manley. As much as I really want one of these uber-whizbang-amazing amps (HA-300 et al.), sadly nothing north of $1k is in my budget or really warranted for my cans (HD6xx, T60RP, Teak, etc). I'll just have to make do with my current tube amps (P20, CTH, ZDT Jr., and LittleDot1+), they might not sound as good, but I definitely don't regret the prices.

May I interest you on checking out Cayin's HA-1A MK2? $729, and only need a tube roll on the 12AU7s (everything else is fine glass), it has been positively compared against more expensive amps such as the Auris HA-2SE and Mogwai- with stock glass! Plus, 2 WPC. A darn sexy beast that should drive the T60s to happiness. Anyways, I bid your wallet good luck!
